I think it's a great idea. Politicians preachi "gun safety" , but we all know that's just the new term for gun control.

Tax credits for gun safes sound good.
As long as the use of those gun safes is not mandatory, but a decision each gun owner can make on their own.

I don't care how much lipstick (or fake eyebrows) they put on that pig, an infringement of my rights is still an infringement.

I you have a room that can be sacrificed for a gun room, and many do, even the cellar, if dry, buy a 36"steel door and frame, frame in the opening, and put a good deadbolt and doorknob on it. You now have a secure storage room. If it has windows, install steel bars across them.
Few burglars carry sawzalls to cut through adjoining walls to get in. Gunsafes are fine, but heavy.

Steel door is not hevy ...meets NYS definition of secure storage.

Prior to retirement I worked with a hand full of "cause & origin" experts that were hired by insurance companies. They were ex LEOs and I learned quite a bit from them. My main job was to determine and estimate property damage and, repair costs. Two houses that were broken into had large heavy stand up gun safes were stolen. One house was owned by a prison guard. His safe was thru-bolted to the family room floor. Perps cut out the floor around the base of the safe and wheeled it out of the house.

Gun safes aren't necessarily safe, from thieves. Hidden storage is better... JMO.

A friend who build their new house last year, got a huge Liberty Safe, and what they did was box it with cinderblock with a steel door in front. This way if thieves were to try to get in, it would take a while even if they had the right tools. It also added much more insulation in the event of a fire to keep the safe cooler/dryer.

Many, many, many years ago, when I was relatively new to paying taxes, I had a discussion with my dad about “tax deductibility in New York state”. In particular, how our property taxes were deductible, and therefore how it really didn’t matter how high they were in NYS.

Very embarrassing now, I know! But I remember back then how our liberal ass politicians would actually talk about what a great thing it was that they were deductible, and why we shouldn’t complain about paying them, etc., etc., and so on. And I had bought into it back then.

But my dad, as all great dads did, persisted in educating me and explained it in a brutally simple example, pointing out that even if I got to deduct something off of my federal taxes that I had paid to NY in taxes, the bottom line was that I had still paid it to NYS in the first place.

Better to pay as little as possible, period.

Fuck NYS! End of story.

Some state should make a $10k residency tax that's federally deductible.

Then that state should figure some way to issue every taxpayer a tax free $10,000 dividend.

Might work for 1 year at least LOL.

I have to agree with others that I don’t love this, both having taxpayers footing the bill for these safes as well as filing paperwork with the government to claim it. It also seems ripe for fraud. How’s the government supposed to know you’re putting guns in the safe? None of the answers are good.

I guess this is one way to troll the libs but as an actual policy it is not good in any way.

the AFT will then start going through the records of everyone that bought gun safes.

Lets see, little Johnny bought 3 - 14 gun safes, so its safe to assume he has over 30 guns, lets go pay a visit to him to see why he has so many.

The intent is good, but when given an inch the govt will take a mile.
