The more I go down the rabbit hole of this shut down the angrier I get. Its so clear that democrats what to make politics out of this for the midterms with their offer of extending the ACA subsidy which to be clear now, when expired, only brings the participants obligation back to 2020 and before levels of costs, for one year enrollment. That's all that happens. A return to the current plan participants costs that has been set since 2009. They want the extension to expire Oct 2026 before the midterms to put of a BS narrative for elections. I say let the shut down continue. The money goes into the pockets of health corporations as the participants simple chose a plan. These companies endlessly raise costs as they have access to unlimited tax funds of which they kick back significant amounts to politicians. The cycle never ending of theft.

So let everything grind to a halt. SNAP recipients should be required to re-file for benefits and the process should be fully scrutinized and those filing thoroughly vetted for qualification.

Scrap the ACA entirely and give those that qualify the money directly to buy what ever plan they want or crack. Remove those that don't spend the funds appropriately.

We all know the 2008 housing and banking crisis where tax money bailed bank that were holding worthless mortgages. I argued give the bailout to everyone holding mortgage and they could pay the bank and pay down their mortgage. But who got the money? The banks.

We need a hard reset and exposure of the system of tax payer abuse. Yes it will be painful and they are counting on you and I to not walk the talk. To cave into our BS lazy habit of bitching and not willing to put in the work require to expose it all.

My strategy for Trump would be to call out democrats and republicans by telling congress to break up the CR and vote each item. Then I would make them vote on any SNAP or ACA subsidy be paid directly in cash to recipients and let them pay the system. This of course would expose the fraud with in both.

I enjoy all three.

Although the Spam takes a real hunger for me to eat it.

Still far preferable to Sardines or Liverwurst. Which my grandparents loved ... and they both were BORN in America :oops:

BTW, when I volunteered for a Food Bank NONE of the three ever were offered. Never.

The food was dry pasta (not ramen), canned veggies, wilted oddball produce (think Kale), maybe an over-ripe tomato, sometimes a potato or two (never a 20lb bag).

I always wonder how much $$$$$$ was skimmed off the top so that only this crap was ever on the table.

Republicans in a poll I saw yesterday said they are willing to pay $65/month for trump’s agenda. His agenda is enriching the rich further. This year my net worth has gone up by six digits already, and my 2025 tax bill—because of his tax cuts—will go down by literally thousands of dollars. I didn’t vote for this, but the poor and middle class who are most directly targeted in substantial part do support it.

Many people here are willing to endure financial pain on behalf of people like me who are doing just fine and frankly don’t need it.

it’s wild to me that so many lower income people in the USA so rabidly fight for the rich and against their own interests. You’re really willing to pay substantially more on the small chance an illegal roofer gets a few bucks, while people like musk and bezos are commissioning 200’ yachts.

Because it's the right thing to do, regardless of whether it's in your best interests.

Integrity isn't doing the right thing because it helps you out. Integrity is doing the right thing even though it *isn't* in your best interest.


Also, Musk and Bezos never took money from me at gunpoint. Every dollar I've given either of them was voluntary, because I received a direct personal benefit i felt was worth the exchange.

Can't say that about my tax dollars going to fund transgender comic books in Guatemala.

Why is it that people in the left think that rich guys getting rich has anything to do with how poor people fare ?

If Bezos have never built Amazon and made his fortune, that would not have made one poor person any richer.

Same for all the rest of them.

The theater continues. We at at a shut down because:

1. We can’t get an approved budget so we resort to these bandaid CR’s; 10 years!
2. This CR is the exact one NOONE took issue with 8 months ago. What changed….
3. But NOW it is imperative that ACA SUBSITIES( enacted during COVID when no one was working and a bunch of sick people) are about to expire. So rather then FIX the broken system or flat out restart it, try and force the hand. This should sound familiar because they don’t fix anything; just make it rain with our money.
4. The quick fix is JUST get the Executive Branch to fund it! Which is an impeachable offense. See how this goes? Much like NOT asking for help Jan6 because they were hoping he would help and then impeach him and avoid him running again.

Our elected forgot who they were given a proxies from and who they work on behalf of. And We The People don’t read what is actually being said and done; no one reads the bills and we continue to let “someone else” chew our food For us.

I find the shutdown boringly amusing. It's shutdown .... folks are still gassing up, going to work (well possibly not if ya work for the feds), going to the grocery store, .... in general, everything's the same.

Lesson to be learned? What the fuck do we need them for?

I think when government re-opens, there will be a examination of all government entities and those that had little to no impact with America might be chopped....I believe Trump is already firing and shutting down irrelevant organizations.

From what I read all he gave them was a promise to vote on the subsidies at a later time.

Which is kind of silly, this whole shutdown has been a vote on the subsidies.

If they had the votes for them, there wouldn't have been a shutdown.

They need a constitutional ammendment to end this bullshit.

Every bill should have to authorize all of it's own spending. Not separate votes for a budget to pay for things that they already voted to happen.

Vote for a new whisawhatsit for the poor people in wherethehellistan ? Then that bill *must* include authorization for all the spending necessary. If the spending is only authorized for 2 years, then the new whosawhatsit better be done by then or it's going to take a whole new bill to do it.

Or… review, approve a budget LIKE IS ALREADY required. The main issue is the lazy act of CR’s have become accepted. Name me a Company that does not have a budget approved each year? The unforeseen (not made up at the last minute stuff) would need individual review, assessment, and vote/ approvals. THAT is the main purpose of Congress along with legislation. They just dont DO IT.

They were commissioning those hatch’s under Biden. I’m not sure why all these people are against the rich. They made it happen and they drive a huge amount of the economy. Don’t forget how many of those people you mention work for those billionaires. Also keep in mind the billionaires have enough money to free to tax heaven countries or probably enough money to make a floating island to avoid taxes at all. It’s all about what drives the economic engine and let’s be real the government bailing out people doesn’t really do that for any sort of long term status.

We dont get taxed on net worth though, and we shouldn't. Net worth is an unrealized gain until it's liquidated.

But, the federal government doesn't *need* to balance a budget. In fact they *never* balance a budget.

There is zero reason for them to be able to pass a law without also funding it at the same time.

And that would eliminate all this bullshit where they manage to hold one vote on the whole government that lets all the representatives hide behind this giant mass of spending.

They aren't forced to take a position on anything, because they can pick through the entire federal government to justify their vote.

It's like voting for your local school budget.

"Option A is full funding, including the new offices for the superintendent and principal".

"Option B is the austerity budget, which is the same thing as A, but the football team doesn't get new uniforms".

And then they pretend you have a choice because you got to vote.
