On it's face one would think that Case Law settled outside of New York would hold sway, but it's not likely. Unless and until anti-gun Laws written in NY can be brought before SCOTUS, cases won in DC, CA, IL, etc. will be ignored by the State AG. The only hope and salvation for NY would be a complete replacement of the Legislature and Governor with Republican/Conservatives, ones with actual functional testicles and a spine to carry them....probably see the end of the World before that ever happens.

That a big "what if". You can be sure the current SCOTUS has no interest in taking a case that would do so. They have had numerous chances to grant cert on these issues and consistently refuse, much to the consternation of Justice Thomas.

"What if" can be summarily answered by the CCIA.
NYSRPA with a $2.5 Million Dollar infusion from the "does nothing for NY" NRA took NYS/NYC to SCOTUS and after the State LOST they enacted with an emergency message of necessity the Carry Concealed Improvement Act (which was already written in anticipation of losing in Court) and passed without Public commentary, input, or review.
For the life of me, I can't imagine the State losing at SCOTUS and not pulling the same shit again for Magazines and "Assault Weapons", hell, this time they'll include .50's and "Sniper Rifles".

Didn’t Bret Kavanaugh say they would take this up this coming term? I mean I’m not sure I believe it but that’s what they said. I think they were waiting for a few to work their way through the lower courts to create a split.
As for what the state can or will do will be based on how the Supreme Court rules and what is stated in that ruling.
However the Supreme Court has already stated and rules that permits and licenses is constitutional but can’t be overly burdensome or costly. So yes to the OP it will likely be that some sort of permit will be required for new purchases. To me that’s why it’s important to have one now so when the ruling comes down you can covert and then likely be grandfathered in.

I would most sincerely hope you're right, and that the Supreme Court will issue a proper decision in line with the Second Amendment and Bruen.

But sadly I think that some of the key Justices are more interested in perpetuating their social standing within the Swamp than they are doing the right thing.

First of all, it will not happen.
Second, "assault rifles" are not banned in NYS. You can go buy one today. Unless the court addresses the "features" aspect, this would do nothing for NYS.
The only cases ive seen before the courts are full out "assault weapon" bans, like in Illinois and.....ummm....Maryland???
Anyways, AR-15s, AK-47s....can all be purchased legally in NYS right now. Heck, Runnings has S&W M&P AR-15s right now for around $500.....or they did recently.
So if the SCOTUS says "assault weapons" cannot be banned, we stay the same. SCOTUS cases are generally very precise. They probably won't rule on the firearm and all the features in one case. First they rule on the gun, then other cases will need to go through years of bullshit to deal with the cosmetic features.
I may be wrong, but the cases ive seen only deal with the firearm.

Well in the hypothetical land where leprechauns riding unicorns go fishing for Nessie, in that case my wife would be big mad at me because I would have a hard time exercising self control with my credit card.

Luckily for me, I don't see that situation occuring.

Scotus needs to very clearly and plainly say any state/town/county/municipality that is making more restrictive gun rights than federal law are null and void. That's what needs to happen.

But it won't.
