I haven't had time to reload, so I took three 20 round boxes of Norma Tac 233 FMJ to the range. It shoots better than any other factory ammo in my Savage Axis 2 XP.
I walked out of Davis with an 800 round box. I think I need my head examined.
There is no state-by-state correlation between gun murder and gun ownership. An internet search will yield enough raw data so that any freshman statistics student can do the calculations.
I think politicians of all sides enjoy having the issue around on Election Day.
Sure, but we had a major war and a couple regional conflicts to thin the stocks.
It's not the surplus ammo. I'm sure they could find people to buy it. The rifles are another problem. What do you do with a couple hundred thousand non-street legal rifles?
Think he must be angling for the 300 BLK. But, they must have billions of 5.56 squirreled away with hundreds of thousands of full-auto capable rifles chambered for it. I doubt they'll just dump those onto the civilian market.
But, who knows...
Had one gobbling about 20 yards inside the tree line. I couldn't get him to come out to play. I decided to try and sneak up. Big mistake. He spotted me as soon as I moved.
I should have been more patient. But, damn, it was cold this morning.
There have been moments American history when the right to bear arms was used support a more progressive agenda.
Even if progressives forget this, you should not. The right to bear arms is for everyone.
Last fall, I was sitting against an old stone foundation hoping a deer would stop buy. I dozed off and was woken by a trio of large male turkeys only about ten yards away. They were fearless of me. They hung out for at least two hours foraging. I kept thinking, ""where were you fellas in May?"...
Spent the morning abusing some steel at my favorite shooting spot with my Savage Axis 2 XP 223. I emptied an entire 100 round box of American Eagle AR223.
I own a 10/22 and I love it. I think you can go in two directions. Direction one is to buy a 10/22 carbine and load it with aftermarket parts. The other is to buy a CZ 455 American and be done. With scope, both options will run at least $500. Get a Nikon 3-8x30 Prostaff Rimfire.
Hodgdon H4895 has specifications for a reduced powder load. If you follow those specifications you can reduce the charge to 15 gr.
One the other hand, you could cache a few thousand round of AE223 for those times.
Is there a reason you chose the ranch varient? I'm just curious.
It seems to me that if you want the most out of the Ruger American as a range gun you'll want the longer barrel and an aftermarket stock.
You may end up paying more for the ranch features that you won't need at the range.

It is good to weigh the pros and cons of a given platform. I sort of agree with the premise that with ubiquitous and inexpensive 223 and 556, a PCC is a stretch.
But, sometimes you want shoot a rifle. Sometimes you want to shoot a pistol. There is an economy to only stocking one type of ammo...
Ideal for dispatching back yard pests without the neighbors calling the cops. Not that would do that. I love the little chippies who get in the garden.
I've been thinking about finding a local club. I want to apply for a pistol permit, but I don't know any local people well enough get a reference.
I've lived in Ulster County for nearly 14 years, but I work in the city. I'm apparently antisocial.
Actually, I use a Caldwell lead sled solo. So, it's all down to the breathing and trigger pull. Between the rest and the thumb hole stock, recoil is not a problem. The 100 yard indoor range at Davis removes any wind issues.

People tell me this. I don't want to debate the issue here. But, I think the way we measure group size is fundamentally flawed. I have nothing to base this feeling on other than a familiarity with probability theory.
I'll sometimes shoot longer strings with my 22 for a hoot. But, it is...
I'm a terminal case.
BTW, I've been ignoring advice and using a pocket reamer to removing the primer crimp. But, I finally broke down and got a pocket swager. It is a huge improvement.
For about six months now, I've been loading cartridges for my Savage Axis 2 XP 223. For each iteration, I load 45 rounds and shoot 15 3 round strings. I measure each group and compute an overall average. From that I score each load with an average MOA score. I have been pleased to get score...
After months of shooting in ideal conditions at the Range. I decided to take my Savage Axis II XP 223 into the field for some test shooting.
I visited our favorite shooting spot near Napanoch (you know where). I built a small wooden frame and hung a 6 inch round plate from it. I...
