Not really news to me since I work in that dirty industry. Matter of fact, just returned from a few days basking at a client's refinery. Just enjoyed one company being selective in the relationship. Unless very drastic and $$ steps are made, one cannot divest itself from the fossil fuel industry.
Oh, it's hypocritical for sure. Not sure why they called them out on it though. I mean if it spurs NFace to actively look for petroleum alternatives that's not good for those companies. If I was selling a product to someone, I wouldn't call them out on buying it from me, I still want to sell to them and make money. Why drive away a customer?
I'm sure this one company got fed up with the hypocritical behavior and being a punching bag. It would be great if north face did look elsewhere or ending up inventing an alternative solution. That's a great way to drive technology forward. Reality is that if they go in the alternative energy world, most of the major energy companies already play and are invested heavy in that world to.
I see it as somewhat of a parallel to those who say f Amazon or boycott XYZ company who has a stranglehold on an industry. The premise seems great, but unless you are committed to your stance, it's too much effort, whether in time or money to make those changes.
