I suppose it's sad that I grew up Fishing all over Florida, even fished the day before I left for the Army, but after getting here and reading about all the "Do Not Eat" or Limit bullshit along with Acid Rain ruining the Adirondacks (remember that scare?) I've only fished a handful of times in the 38 years I've lived here....Lake Ontario is 10 miles West, Salmon River is 19 South and DEC stocks several streams in the area, just lost interest, which is sad because I love Fish, it's God's Food of Choice!

IF I were going to buy a Used Boat (thinking maximum size for the Dollar) I'd go to FL where they're more common than snowmobiles and ATV's are to us...just don't buy Saltwater Boats that have been left in the Water or ones not properly flushed after taking them out.

I like to fish here and the fishing here is pretty good. Ocean fishing is much different and if that’s what you are used to then I get that. Also I get Fl has a lot of fishing opportunities from land that NYS doesn’t offer. Hence why I’m thinking of a boat but I have 2 in college, need some windows, and a roof before I do a boat. I don’t know if it will happen anymore but that is what it is. Just found out they are limiting how much extra duties my wife can take on at work so we will lose money because of that as well. They have said that before and were unable to find others to do the tasks or hire adequate people so who knows if it will ever happen.
Back on topic much of what you can buy is cheaper outside of NYS or my immediate area. When looking for a car I considered going to PA or OH because they were a few thousand cheaper but we happened into the exact car we wanted for under the going rate by a few thousand dollars so we snatched it up. I suspect a slowdown in the economy is coming and I will wait to see what happens there. Many say the unemployment is good as a sign the economy is strong but I think many are working more or multiple jobs because the cost of things. My wife and I are doing that for that reason. I have this year left for college for my oldest then if I can pinch enough penny’s maybe in a year or two I’ll buy a boat or a car but not sure what.

When we were younger me and 2 friends almost bought a fishing boat at a boat show. A 25 ft, I forget the brand, 60 grand at the time late 70's. We were all pretty drunk and one guy stopped us just before we signed. Suggested we wait til we sober up, if we still feel the same, we'd do it. Later that day we were discussing docking fees in and around Bklyn, Queens etc. That was the deciding factor.

There are plenty of docks and launches around me. In fact many docks go unrented around me. There is one close by that is $775 for the season my parents rent from them. Put in is early may take out whenever you want. Nice ones closer to the Niagara River are $1,100-$2,000. The $2,000 is at fancy marinas where you have water, gas, toilet and a little spot to hang out. I have a nice backyard so I don’t need that. Time and free cash are what’s holding me back. I won’t take a loan for a toy so I have to work extra jobs and OT to pay for it.

Living in NYC at the time, nobody had room to store a boat. The prices for dock space and storage were in the neighborhood of 5k a year at the time.

Organized and cleaned up my gear today. My son bought a new reel yesterday and it’s amazing it’s a lews speed spin CRX. It’s nice looking, light and smooth.
