Man with umbrella prompts lockdown at Destiny USA: People thought it was an AR-15

Police said the man's umbrella did look like a rifle from a distance.

A couple people thought the umbrella was an AR-15.
The man was taken to the police station for questioning.
This is a direct result of the constant barrage of fear-porn going on in the media, and the continual attempts to demonize guns in general, and the AR platform specifically.

Not only that, but a security guard at the mall saw it on camera, saw him get on an elevator with it, and still called it in. SO many people are complacent in this, it's wild.

AND he was taken to the station for questioning. once they saw it was an umbrella, that should have been the end of it. IANAL but I'm pretty sure he could have a lucrative lawsuit.

It’s missing many many requirements to even be close to a gun. I’m astonished that anyone thought this was a gun. I’m wondering if there is more to this story and the people calling 911 didn’t like him. This stinks to me and I can’t believe people would be that stupid.
As someone above stated if they said it was a sword I’d get that but not a gun.

Same thing happened with someone at RIT a few years back. The powers to be all but scrambled the F 16's. I guess over reaction is better than complacency, but we are surrounded by way too many idiots. Both those who would do us harm and those who are too stupid to be walking the streets.
