If the shooter as reported had a CCW permit for other weapons, he has a decent setup for a RKBA defense based on there being no history or tradition of requiring specific guns to be permitted for CCW. I'd make that challenge.

ETA: Also the defendant should challenge any need to have a license for the weapons found in his home. Again, there is no history or tradition of a license being needed to maintain a handgun or rifle within one’s home.

After initial conflicting reports the victim of the Sullivan law only had a rifle/shotgun permit for NYC (no pistol license). Only 6 out of the 30 firearms were registered with NYPD. This could be a great case to strike down the Sullivan law, however knowing how dirty NYC plays they might just drop the felony charges to avoid any precedent to bring down NY’s anti 2A tyranny.

If 2A was used for its supremacy over the states, as the inverse right when compared to the 10th, then no state gun control allowed. This is the natural and apparent next SCOTUS decision to end all the bans. All guns laws, then have to come from the US Congress so they applied equally in the whole US.
