I got it yesterday, 08/01. I have been wanting some kind of 9mm carbine for lower cost range fun and I decided on the FPC-
LGS charged me just $620 which is less than an M&P pistol. That is why I selected the FPC ultimately, to serve as a companion for my M&P Carry Comp. Initial impressions were better than I expected them to be. Give its screwed together polymer construction I expected it to feel a bit of a chintzy, rattlely mess but it doesn't, its quite light and mostly polymer and held together by about a hundred screws but it feels solid and tight despite this. Egromics are fairly good with two caveats-
My thumb cannot quite reach the magazine release with out rotating my wrist around and the stock somewhat impeeds said movement. It's not so bad as to ve especially cumbersome but it is a foible nonetheless
Also the bolt catch does not function as a bolt release. You need to use the charging handle to release the bolt and this works well enough. However I do find that if one wants to close the bolt on an empty magazine its is easy enough to reach uo with the firing index finger into the ejection port and depress tge top of tge bolt catch. You need to ride the bolt home to keep it from snapping shut on you finger though.
Disassembly is mostly easy but you will have a couple of small, non captive parts to keep track off and it is important to not let the hammer forward when the bolt is out or you will need to reset the hammer manually before the bolt can go back in. This is a fiddly process requiring me to use the back end of a screwdriver to come in from the front of the receiver to push down the hammer. Best to leave the safety on while taking everything apart.
Regarding that safety- it is a simple cross bolt style but the ends are perfectly contoured to fit the finger tip with aggressive texture and falls perfectly under the finger without having to stretch for it. For me at least.
It can be engaged and disengaged weather the hammer is cocked or un-cocked.
I have put the Holosun 515 from my HD AR onto the FPC with the Holosun AEMS that I got along with it replacing the 515 on said AR.
The 515 was on a high rise QD mount that was too tall to co-witness with BUIS but is at a perfect height for use on the FPC.
I had Initial trouble getting the 515 zeroed to tge FPC but that turned out to be due to a loose mount. The Midwest mount has adjustable clamp tension and had to be tightened a bit to secure it to the polymer rail of the FPC.
The folding action is solid and being that it folds to the side it doesn't interfere with the red dot. Locks up tightly too.
Today I took it to the range and sent 500 rounds throug it, I will give my range impressions in a following post.
