Where is this country headed?

What are your opinions or thoughts on where this country is heading in the future?

I'm pretty pessimistic right now and I hope maybe some will chime in with good logic or opinions on maybe things are not as bad as they appear.

I feel like this must be how Americans felt in 1859. I try to be pragmatic but also watch and observe trends and direction. I can't get past my personal opinion that things are continually escalating and rhetoric is now turning to violence.

The left has been increasingly demonizing and dehumanizing the right in their attempts (in my opinion to condone or justify) why it will be ok to use violence if they feel it's beneficial to them.

Respectful debate or discourse is gone, the free sharing of ideas and opinions especially in college is long dead and there is now an instant mob mentally using social media.

I came across this which I think accurately describes what's going on.

I also fear that if/when the left gets back in power on the national level it will be open season on us and the soft coup will go full out jackbooted thugs. If you thought Obama's reign was bad next time they are in power I fear they will exponentially push their agenda that much more. Look what they are doing now with obstructing the will of the people when they don't have power in any single branch of government now. Imagine in 2020 if they take back house/Senate and presidency. Its over if that happens the constitution will be toast and the activist federal judges will wipe their asses with it.


What are your thoughts? Does anyone have any encouraging insight or beliefs we can work it out?

Off the top of my head, I don't exactly see the left regaining control if they keep acting like this. They have begun to show their true colors, are way worse now than during Obama, and they lost the election because of how they were during Obama. I think they will continue down the path of violence until the right feels there is no other option and the left gets bluntly and probably very violently stopped in their tracks.
I think our government could possibly become de-legitimised in the process. Then of course who knows what could happen international while this all plays out, but I wouldn't be surprised by another global war. Who knows??? Bottom line, however it plays out, I don't see things getting better until after they get WAY worse.

This level of discord isn't just going to go away on its own or with public statements of unity from congress. Unfortunately, it's only a Matter of time until things really come to a head. Wish I could refute all of your points. I started getting concerned after the economic crash of 2009 and by 2012 it seemed prudent to become a firearms owner and get as much training and practice as possible. This country is bankrupt and has been for quite some time but how it keeps on going I'll never know. Obama weaponized the federal government to go after political enemies - witness the IRS and the tea party. The mainstream press no longer even bothers to hide its obvious bias. And the supposedly intellectual environment at most universities has turned into mobs openly encouraged to be violent by the professors and administration. We now have just as many people out of work on the dole of some sort as we do working and paying taxes. I keep waiting for the shitstorm to start. I think it's inevitable, we just don't know when.

I just drove from Buffalo to St. Louis, passing Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis and then St Louis. I get here and find out that Illinois (aka Obamaland) is not paying lotto winners because they are broke, can New York be far behind.
I saw and construction going on, I saw highway's being built. I see growth he in my old home town to where I don't recognize it and need a GPS to get around.
Now returning I will enter New York down by Jamestown, passing through a toll booth where the person inside is making almost 100K and a nice juicy State Pension. The highway will be in terrible condition. The cities are rusting away. Buffalo will look exactly as it did when I arrived in 1988.
Ahhhh "progressives" where would we be without them.
My point is; We in NY have to be careful and aware of tunnel vision. Other parts of the country do not have our problems. In Missouri, they passed a law making it illegal to use state funds for illegal immigrants years ago. When they hear about us paying for everything for them it does not compute because they don't have any illegal immigrant problems.
Some of my liberal friends in MO are excited that California is talking secession. I then tell them that there is a movement in NY to split off NY City, they seemed shocked. They are all metros and don't understand the city / rural divide.
The shooting last week by a Democrat could be the modern equivalent of the Firing on Fort Sumpter by Democrats back then. Other Democrats cheered and rallied back then and in the end lost everything. If it is such an equivalent then lets hope that History repeats because back then the "Democrats" at least knew how to shoot. Today, well, if the shooter from last week in any indication, not so much.

I just heard a radio Ad yesterday trying to gain support for a NY state wide government sponsored/controlled single payer health care plan for all residents.

You make a lot of good points, unfortunately I can't refute any of them and agree with everything you said, none of it is encouraging but all pretty pessimistic.

I guess the only good news is we recognize it and are trying to control and prepare in what minor ways we are able to do so.

I do this sometimes too just for curosity to see what the other side is thinking. Their comments are pretty far out there. This shooting has probably served to reinforce their opinions. They renew their calls for gun control, blame trump and his rhetoric, say our side has it coming to us, said we weren't outraged when giffords was shot but now the shoe is on the other foot etc...

They are totally unhinged, hateful, weak minded and easily manipulated. They are becoming more extreme and radical.

If you want really unhinged go to sites like democratic underground or any of the "occupy" sites. It's been a while since I went to either. Many years ago a commenter at the democratic underground site wrote that "republicanism is 100 times worse than nazism." Not just worse than nazism - 100x worse! I remember thinking these people are out of their friggin minds and slightly scary. That was over a decade ago. I doubt they have mellowed since then. It would not surprise me at all if the nutjob that shot Scalise is being honored as a hero or a martyr for the cause.

Frankly, I'm beginning to think it's some nefarious smoke screen for even more serious shit. Waters, Pelosi and Feinstein, as well as the media, could be nothing but a distraction.

Obola left "stay behind" operatives all over .GOV, including .MIL. We know he cleansed the upper ranks of officers who weren't part of his "crew", or compliant at least.

Another thing that bugs me is the depiction of politics/politicians in TV shows. I have been watching "Veep" on HBO and just started watching "House of Cards" on netflix. The cynicism in both shows is unbelievable. In Veep washington DC is depicted as corrupt and incompetent and played for laughs. In House of Cards it is depicted as corrupt and ruthless. I enjoy Veep but hope there is nothing even remotely close to the truth about politics in that show.

There is no way a movie like "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" would get made today and if it did it would probably bomb at the box office. The culture believes the federal govt is corrupt. I am certain there must be a few honest people in Washington but they are an exception. I think the cultural influence of movies/TV shows over time will have some sort of impact. In the event of a true political crisis, when the country needs to pull together it will be difficult if the vast majority of the population believes the govt is irredeemably corrupt.

Balkanization, this country has been absorbing 1 million legal have-nots for decades from third world Hellscapes and BOTH parties have turned a blind eye to illegal immigration from the third world for as long, it is not that these are all bad people, but they are bringing their filthy, failed-state, way of life to us.

It is not a race issue or a religion issue, it is a cultural issue, the Dems scoop them up, declare war on traditional America, and they are outbreeding the traditional Americans; the vast majority will register and vote Democrat-----the Republic is dying and the Republican party ONLY lives thanks to Trump's populist slave revolt.
