The recent news gave incentive to try some targets at 200 yards which I never do. I was okay with my results with standard green box Remington hunting ammo. Remington 700 sps in 308, millet scope

Didn't you just put this Ruger together?View attachment 274137 View attachment 274138 View attachment 274139 View attachment 274140
10 shot groups @ 50 yards
Yes but no. Its a totally factory 10/22 Target Lite, the stock with all extras was around $300 and the scope was also around $300 so total cost is around $900 which isn't too bad.Didn't you just put this Ruger together?
They're a fun but expensive little build. I need to dig mine out.
Dirty ammo loads or worn muzzles?Another beautiful day at the range.

That is carbon on the front end of the slides.Dirty ammo loads or worn muzzles?
Bought a Remington 700SPS in .300WM a few months back, mounted a Leupold VXR on it and finally took it to the Range: seems I had almost 50 rounds of assorted ammunition and it shot pretty well although the barrel was getting pretty hot and my shoulder sore by the time that Ammo Box was all but gone...I'd get a group and zero the scope, but then the POI would change with lord only knows what I was actually shooting...wanted to burn it up opposed to pulling the bullets like I usually do...over the years I've been given a lot of odd-lots of ammo, many being reloads, so I'll pull them down, dump the powder, pop the primers, then send the Brass through a wet Tumbler with Pins...this time I just shot it up as I need the practice. Also tried my new Bergara in 300wm for the first time. Got too fatigued to finish the sight in though.

I don't think I've ever shot a pistol that didn't get dirty snoot after a few dozen roundsThat is carbon on the front end of the slides.
Powder has a lot to do with that, and if what you're using is satisfactory then stay with it...I switched to Accurate Arms Powders 35 years ago and seldom ever use anything else in Pistols/Shotgun...Unique and "dot" powders seem to the the worst soot offenders.I don't think I've ever shot a pistol that didn't get dirty snoot after a few dozen rounds
I am not a reloaded, I haven't tge time for it. What ever powder the manufacturers use is what I shoot. Carbon deposition on the slide wipes off with a dry rag anyway.Powder has a lot to do with that, and if what you're using is satisfactory then stay with it...I switched to Accurate Arms Powders 35 years ago and seldom ever use anything else in Pistols/Shotgun...Unique and "dot" powders seem to the the worst soot offenders.
Hence my comment if it works for you, stick with it...many serious shooters reload or eventually start reloading, and while I can reload, there are some rounds I just rather buy....Before Remington got into financial trouble, a friend worked there and they could order ammo from the Plant in Lonoak for cost: We bought 1,000 round cases of bulk 9mm for $99. per K. Think I'd take a pallet of it now if I could get it for that...used to buy Flats of Trap Koads for $40. each.I am not a reloaded, I haven't the time for it. I actually like the appearance of a gun thusly dirtied. Says "why yes I do ACTUALLY shoot my guns."
I've been shooting all my adult life, so 25 years now and I've never been into reloading. I just do not have the spare time for it and frankly stuff like that what requires fiddling with, attention to fine detail and so forth I derive no pleasure from. I just want to grab a case of ammo and shoot it.Hence my comment if it works for you, stick with it...many serious shooters reload or eventually start reloading, and while I can reload, there are some rounds I just rather buy....Before Remington got into financial trouble, a friend worked there and they could order ammo from the Plant in Lonoak for cost: We bought 1,000 round cases of bulk 9mm for $99. per K. I've been seeing Clubs with Trap Fields shooting under UV lights. looks like a lot of fun....this is the first picture of an indoor Range I've seen using Black Lights.Someone turned the lights out. View attachment 274495
That makes me wonder if it's cheaper to shoot factory .45 ACP now, what with it being just a couple cents per round more than 9mm. Might see a revival of the Fudd Cannon caliber should this keep up.been reloading for about 30 plus years. But for the last 5 years I have mainly shot factory loads. Ammo is relatively cheap now, compared to what you have to pay for components. I am about 70K rounds behind on reloading.
primers 8-10 cents each
Powder 50+ bucks a pound
Bullets .10-1.00
it costs more to reload just about most rounds you can shoot through auto loaders.
I have enough stuff to reload everything I need to shoot for years.
Fudd Cannon Caliber? LOL. 45 ACP is running less than 43 cents a round where I buy my ammo. 9mm is running about 23 cents a round. When shooting pistols, I typically shoot around 180 rounds of 9mm and 160 rounds of 45 a week. That makes me wonder if it's cheaper to shoot factory .45 ACP now, what with it being just a couple cents per round more than 9mm. You can get .45 online for the mid to upper 30 cent range, 9mm typically runs in the very low 30 cent rangeFudd Cannon Caliber? That Atlanta Arms ammo, which is very good stuff, ran about .45 cents...........for the .45 ACP. Imagine that!
I benchmarked SG Ammo which typically has good prices tgat even if they aren't the cheapest they are close and their shipping is always cheap and very fast.Damn, where are you shopping? I'm getting 9mm for .19/rnd and .45 for .29/rnd (house brand at 2A Warehouse)
Nice looking beer drinking pond you have too.I`ve been reloading for well over 50+ years. I cast my own bullets, powder coat them. I`m still using up 40 year old primers and powder. At this point, "this guy" is loadin some real cheap gun food.
Plus when you have your own range`s on your own property, my wife an i can shoot whenever we want to. Which is not often enough lately with my failing health. Hope to get out there tomorrow.
