This is a weird one. Think about it for a second: the state is trying to reduce the amount of regulation and everyone here is in opposition.

What is being said in this thread is "NO! I want my local government to be able to limit what I can build on my property!"

Though that's not quite the case. I don't think anyone here wants to be limited on what they can build on their property. We just want our neighbors to be limited on what they can build on theirs.

...which sounds awfully liberal... :oops:

Swing and a miss. Nice try, though. Decision-making at the lowest level of government (aka local-control) is a decidedly Conservative principle, and was one of the foundations of the original movement. Citizens have no greater chance at truly representative government than at the local level. Statists always seek to remove that local control as they attempt to consolidate ever more power.

Nothing is that absolute. We long ago learned that there needs to be some level of non-local control - that's why the Articles of Confederation didn't work out.

For a very relevant example, we enjoy state-level preemption when it comes to gun laws. That's what prevents localities from creating laws and regulations that would, say, prohibit you from carrying in a neighboring county. This is the same exact concept, applied to zoning.

Are you similarly opposed to state preemption for our gun laws as well?

Think about it. You buy a house in a single family house area. Now the state changes it. The developers are going to make flop houses around you. Overnight the neighborhood changes.
Remember how investment banking firms like Blackrock were buying up single family homes increasing the prices of starter homes? Could that be a reason for this big push by the state?

I take care of myself, my wife and my kids until they can take care of themselves. Call me selfish if you must. I don't care. Dress it up how ever you must. It still winds up as socialism. Now I can't live the way I want and have worked for because someone else doesn't have the same ability? To hell with that. Not that I want to die but I am also up for not being here forever the way the world is going. "They" cause problems and then have insane solutions for the problems "they" cause. My sympathy/empathy tank is running on fumes.

You had demands for civil rights, and you had the federal government essentially paying white people to leave the central city and to live in this new space – a white space – called the suburbs. The structure of that is still what we’re living with today. So much of the work of Jim Crow laws was maintaining social distance between blacks and whites. Now whites lived in the suburbs, and blacks and racialized others lived in the city. Social differences became redefined through these fragmented, racialized, metropolitan areas. Money was divested from the city, which were old neighborhoods where black were more likely to live, and suburbs were created”.

I live in the suburbs. There are black families in the suburbs where I live. There are black families that have nicer houses than I do. There are black families that drive nicer cars than I do. Stop with the fucking excuses already. Stop being parasites no matter what skin color you have. Take personal responsibility for your actions. If you have kids do the right thing and raise them properly. Spend time with them. Teach them right from wrong. Work hard. Be kind to all people. Stop being a victim. I mean seriously, is it really that fucking difficult to understand?

Interesting take but reading the article it appears to be more of a mandate on what to build rather than a step towards more freedom.
