Drone pilot watched the Ruski come up from behind many times. They knew the Ruskis were playing with them. A handful of up elevator at the right time would have ruined his day. The SU wouldn't have any time to react. Game over.
Drones are slower than jets, in speed AND manuverobility. They can't just pop up. Jet pilot would have the ability to react to whatever move drone would make.

my guess is that they feel it could be used as a bargaining chip in the future. Not that it would work, but they have nothing to offer if Ukraine collapsed.
