Australia is not like the USA. Anyone sneaking in by boat is taken to a remote Pacific island and detained far from Australia, and banned from entering. If they ever get asylum (most do not) it would have to be somewhere like Papua New Guinea, which is not what they are after. In consequence there are near zero illegals immigrants living in Australia who invaded the border in any recent years, and the boats stopped coming.

Illegals in Australia overstayed their visa or in some cases got fraudulent papers, but they came in through a port of entry with inspection.

While America incentivizes border invaders. We do regularly turn people without papers away and send them back at ports of entry, but if someone crosses the border illegally (a federal crime and violation of national sovereignty) we give them papers, aid, and free rein to go where they please in the interior.
