Bakhmut is pretty much finished. The Uki's are down to about 1 square mile in the western end and cant really escape, Its all open farm land behind them , cant get resupplied. What a fucking waste of men, I truly feel bad for both sides. Utter fucking slaughter.

Yes Russia is experiencing massive casualties. However, the Wagner group has done the majority of the recent fighting and dying. The Russian army has actually been growing because they are building up with conscripts at a rapid pace under mobilization. The Russian army is not suffering the insane casualties but the Wagner group is.
So cliff notes, Russia killed off a bunch of convicts as cannon foder to use in a war of attrition. Even if the Ukrainians were killing the Wagner at a rate of 5:1 Russia would make that trade all day every day. The Ukrainians can't be replaced, but the Russians are literally disposing of their undesirables as battlefield pawns.

Zelensky ran out of places to go in Europe and headed to Japan and Saudi Arabia, obviously he is staying out of Ukraine for whatever reason.

He's warning that if they don't hold, then his backers may demand it.
Already there are many in NATO (and even on this board) who want the whole mess over with and don't really care who ends up with what territory.
If the west cuts off the checkbook funding him, Zelensky may not have many options.

I agree, but there are two partys in this war, and I dont think the Russians are going to be in a good mood to negotiate, after it made offers before and just after the start of the war . If the US pulls out which it will do eventually , Ukraine will fall, thats not an opinion thats a hard cold fact since they cannot produce the war materials and weapons its need to continue .
We have to look at it from the US side also. Obviously we cannot support them forever. I got a feeling they told zelinsky , that if he cant hold bakhmut after everything we have done , then theres not much more we can do. At some point you have to stop throwing good money after bad.

There's nothing wrong with feeling bad for the Ukrainian people and not liking their government. Is it really any different than here?
I sympathize with the regular citizens caught in this mess they didn't ask for it, it's just the way it happened.
Regular citizens of countries have far more in common with each other than our power hungry corrupt governments want us to realize. I would likely trust an average regular Ukrainian or Russian citizen before I trust my own government.

I think some "deal" that will let Putin claim a victory would be the best he can hope for.
The west isn't going to cut Zelensky off cold turkey. Since there aren't Americans dying, we are quite willing to keep this money laundering operation going for decades.

Benefit? Maybe not. there is no way Putin allows Ukraine to continue on as a sovereign goverment. He really has no choice . Is Ukraine going to agree to be nuetral? Putin is going to trust the same people that broke the Minsk agreements? Only to arm up again at some time in the future? The West cant be trusted. there can be no agreement with liars. He must maintain the edge he has ,I cant see him giving it up for a promise.
The only way Putin considers the deal is if its sweet enough. All territory East of the Dniper river and the port of Odessa , because I think thats all he really needs . I think zelensky would tell him to go fuck himself again , and the war will continue until Russia meets its goals .
Without proper air cover Ukraine cant launch a major offensive , let alone win the war. they are out numbered in tanks missiles, infantry and artillery.I thought for a moment they were going to try anyways
Even the F16s they are talking about wont change much, I would imagine the main purpose is not to engauge the Russian airforce but to strike ground targets useing weapons and targeting packages which would take to long to convert over to MIgs

Remember WW2 when Germany was at the gates of Moscow, the Russian officer core had been purged, the Russian army was collapsing and retreating along the entire front, whole army groups were lost . Nothing but air between the Germans and the Capital.
The Russians didn't quit. They wont ever quit. They are going to continue this war until Ukraine is crushed or surrenders , no matter what it costs , no matter how long it takes. The US is ready to throw the towel in already. It hasnt even crossed the Russians minds yet . They are ready willing and able to lose millions of men to secure their borders or die trying .
Zelenski signed his own death warrant, Doesnt matter where he goes , sooner or later they will find him and send him to hell

Putin may be willing to fight to the last Russian, but I am pretty sure Zelensky is willing to do the same thing.
A lot of powerful people are making a lot of money off this in the west. I don't think anyone who matters is getting ready to throw in the towel yet.
Also, in WWII, the Germans were knocking on the door of Moscow.
Here, the Russians are fighting to take someone else's home. I wouldn't count on the same level of dedication. Nobody fights a war of aggression with the same fervor they do defending their homes.
Also, Putin may be ruthless, be he's no Stalin, and modern Russia is not the Stalinist Soviet Union either. He doesn't have that degree of control, and the Russian people don't have that degree of desperation and fear.

HIMARS are doing a good number on the orcs, and more arriving weekly. Orcs have no defense against himars because their war fighting is basically about forty years behind nato. I anticipate the USA will release some of the long range himars rockets soon.
