Sadly, I doubt it will backfire that much, if at all.

They were able to successfully tarnish his reputation by taking his "I can grab pussy" statement out of context and use it to show him as a sexual predator. Even today there are many who think Trump rapes women.
With all of the other ways they are attempting to remove or discredit Trump I'm not surprised they are trotting this old lie out again. They don't have any real ways to discredit him and their own Party is filled with examples of inappropriate behavior up to and including child sexual abuse, theft, and malicious prosecution. They have to get ahead of things and try to blame Trump for the stuff their own people are doing as a distraction or all the Dominion machines in the world won't help them.

Trump is an idiot and has said and done many dumb things when it comes to women. This is his biggest threat and she’s capitalizing on it. It’s actually a smart move. Yell and tell me I’m wrong all you want but I’m not. As much as the lawsuit was a sham she won. There are other recordings of him and you can’t tell me he wasn’t involved with that porn star.
