Just one more business fleeing New Yorkistan, in a near endless line of businesses running for the exits. From my experience selling in the manufacturing sector in NY since the 1970’s, I watched as one after another got the Hell out!

Paper mills; foundries; metals plants; countless industrial manufacturers; food manufacturers; and literally hundreds and hundreds of others who fled NYS for greener pastures. And the exodus continues today.

You should get out too.

Changing a product line depends on many factors including whether or not the new product is already overproduced by other companies.
Retooling, new advertisements, etc., cost money at a time when many companies are feeling the pinch of a crappy economy.
And since their first product using polystyrene is being banned, what's to say any new product won't be similarly banned in a very short time. Never underestimate the desire for communists to ban everything they either don't like or want to control.

so ultimately closing the plant becomes the most fiscal decision.

Yes, people need jobs. But, unlike our .gov, companies can't just make up money out of whole-cloth to keep paying people. It has to come from somewhere.

I've moved to a State that doesn't have recycling requirements... Was weird first time shopping and they gave plastic bags, lol, and there's no "requirement" to separate garbage, etc.

So when surrounded by a world that doesn't participate in the folly, what are you doing? Trying to set and example ... For what? Doing what? Then add in the other 8 Billion People around the globe who aren't worried about using plastics, gasoline, natural gas, etc., etc... Is about as effective as standing on the edge of a windy cliff and trying to spit! Lol

They built their Newburgh building about 5 years ago. It's huge!! Factory and warehouse.

New York is sinking fast for them to walk away from that investment.
