I am crossing my fingers this is not factual and is merely an internet rumor or disinformation.


But, it appears there are a few stories on obscure news pages that Israel bombed the Russian bases in Syria to prevent Iranian weapons transfers.

It appears Russia is evacuating citizens and embassy staff from Lebanon now, and have told their citizens to leave Israel immediately.

There seems enough out there that the story is plausible and may actually have occurred or a version not too far off this. At the bare minimum the yahoo story mentioned Russia shooting down Israeli missiles. This is certainly an escalation anyway you look at it.

Why? Iran just made a direct attack on Israel and we are not exactly involved besides defensive help.

What does Putin do? Is he in a position to escalate further through a retaliatory response? Downplay it (maybe by claiming exaggerated shoot downs) and let it go, at least for now? Does this threaten the Russian presence?

I'm not really well-versed, but it seems a direct attack by Russia on Israel could result in direct US involvement.

I think if there were ever a plausible scenario for WW3 it would occur as an escalation of proxy engagements away from each others homelands. Megiddo seems like a fine place for that to occur.

If Israel actually attacked Iranian assets on a Russian base I think ww3 is all but assured. No way Putin can just let that go and turn the other cheek.

I'm shocked this incident is really not being reported it's very hush hush but just enough is sneaking out where I think it has a chance to be accurate and not merely an obscure hoax or propaganda.


I remember much younger when I read the book alas babalyon and ironically enough ww3 was triggered by missiles hitting a base in Syria... Just saying sometimes life can be ironic.

Putin has his hands full with Ukraine. There is no way he wants a war with Israel at the same time. I don't doubt he might do something just to retaliate but the odds of them getting involved more in the mideast than they are already are pretty low.

Heres the dilemma for the West, From what I saw, they are planning to take out Irans oil and storage facility's , probably ports also. This would most likely break the back of Hamas and Hezbollah economically , Looks good on paper. But the consequences are that another oil supplier willl step up and fill the vacuum in the market , and that vacuum is Russia. Russias economy has already increased by around 3-5% , If they do this they may as well send Russia a check for 3-5% more . They are a major supplier to China and Europe. and china and Europe has to get oil from somewhere. Europe is still buying oil and gas from Russia and Iran through middlemen . Russia stands to gain economically through oil and arms exports to Iran.

Think of this from Putin's perspective.

What would take the world's attention away from Ukraine? A war with Israel, Iran and the middle east.

You better believe Putin will give everything he can afford to give to Iran to do the exact same thing being done to him in Ukraine to shift the focus. He will want the US to get entangled in the middle east to spend less on Ukraine.

China will be pissed as they are a major buyer of Iranian oil and gas. In fact if the US gets dragged in directly or as a proxy to another conflict china may just say F- it the US is spread too thin and has depleted their reserves so much that they won't also risk a 3rd conflict and they will make their move on Taiwan while everyone is distracted by multiple theaters simultaneously.

I actually think the Biden administration would be pressuring the Israelis to avoid the oil facilities. The impact on Iran will be large but the impact to the rest of the world could be even larger. The chinese will be very pissed off and the global price of oil will rise dramatically. As you point out this will help russia.

I think thats why they are hesitating. I dont think its a matter of balls, I think its a matter of repercussions, particularly creating a powerfull Russia .Which also helps the BRIC nations and weakens the dollar in the process

My guess is they are looking over shorter term ways of fucking Hamas or Hezbolla without helping Russia or the BRIC 's
