Don’t you know the state took in so much money that’s why she can give us some of ours back. They have some $500 property tax rebate thing going on and this was her explanation of why it can be done. I’m assuming sales tax incoming was higher than projected. Don’t forget with housing prices and car prices being so high the incoming taxes from those alone must be astronomical. I know property sales usually goes to the counties but they have cut back on what they give to the counties because of COVID money. This will all change soon.

Oddly enough my kids are too young to get the free college plan. That was done for a strategic reason and not many people will ever benefit from it. That was all done to keep the cost low to the state. Another look what we did political ploy.

They're going to pass it back to the Counties as unfunded mandates.
As for Free Tuition; essentially SUNY Tuition was to be in thirds: The County, Students, and the State except the State has never fulfilled their portion...They love to tell everyone how great they're going to make things, what they don't tell you is how YOU are going to pay for it with higher and more taxes, fees, licenses, ad nauseam, and believe me when I tell you these clueless jackasses have no real clue into realty, I am dead serious.

It was done that way as to minimize the disruption of money already flowing to colleges from kids coming directly out of high school.

Many of those are wasting their (or our) money on Liberal Arts, Gender Studies and other useless degree programs. This will work something like a crappy BOGO for those kids so they can then take the courses they should have taken in the first place. But they have to keep the LGBTQ crowd happy by offering them and maintain a ROI on those that teach the courses.

So now what percentage of kids will just delay starting college until 25? Hell, they can stay on their parent's healthcare until 26. Kids these days are just given an incentive to grow up later in life and that is a problem.

SUNY schools are under water and this is a BS scheme to prop them up.

These State of the Turd speeches...they only tell you how they are going to polish what they've already fucked up without ever admitting it.

Yep, second it. I know for a fact the state doesn't meet its obligation. Every year SUNY college administrators pray for extra crumbs from Albany.

As unfunded mandates the taxing mechanisms will occur at the county level, so they'll take the heat. Every county exec in this state should be opposing this.

Also, a good portion of the students share is covered by federal grants, so the tax-payer gets screwed coming and going.
