If you are a gun owner and don't understand the difference between "charged with" and "convicted of", you absolutely should not own guns.

My uncle has a felony DWI and I never knew why he wouldn’t shoot with us when I was a kid. It’s because my dad’s a cop. He also cannot enter Canada and it is a life long ban from what I understand. A felony is a felony and makes you a prohibited person. They will take any gun related items and ammo. Felons can’t have ammo either and many don’t know this.

Charged and convicted are two different things in the end as far as being a prohibited person. I am sure it will be pleaded down to a misdemeanor.
He has multiple Beretta SL3's, I am sure $10K is not going to be a huge issue.

Many don’t know it but some misdemeanors in NYS sell make you a prohibited person so make sure he knows not to plea down to any of them. I don’t think DWI is one of them. Hr should also know the CCIA so he doesn’t admit to having a gun at an establishment that serves alcohol. Also the good moral character clause for pistol permits could see his get revoked so that b gs the question when did he buy his last semi auto rifle and if his permit gets revoked will he loose his gun rights? Lots to navigate here and the tangled web NYS maws weave could get him jammed up. He needs a great lawyer for this.

Yeah, and if I were a felon, I wouldn't give a royal fuck about reapplying for any pistol permit anymore lol.

80% out of state receiver purchases or whatever else, Full capacity mags on everything, and hell, maybe even a glock switch or two. No retarded gun laws matter for convicted felons. Gun laws are for the law abiding. Once you're labeled a felon, who cares?

Probably close to 95% of everyone has committed at least one felony and probably loads of misdemeanors at one point or another without even knowing it in their lifetime.
Some people might even unknowingly do it on a daily basis! It's not until you're convicted does it matter. But when it all falls down and you lose pretty much everything in life, what incentive do you have to obey gun laws? Doesn't mean you're no longer strategic about living life, but a pistol permit at that point has no value for the off chance you get caught.

I agree with you lol. I already have special instructions for my wife in case of death or arrest. Basically it instructs her to remove all guns from the premises to an offsite location (not owned by us). The relocation should be performed before bailing me out or collecting my corpse. We have went over them a few times so she knows I am serious about it.

Gun Trust? Does NY recognize a Trust whereas others could take possession absent an FFL transfer? Curious... Is definitely a thing down here (NC), especially with Class III items, etc.

Otherwise, rented U-Haul to out of state location, small rental space, and lock them up... State doesn't have jurisdiction, let alone for property seizure, outside it's borders, not to my knowledge anyways. Would be the quickest solution. Done!

But agree, smartest and least resistant path is to call a damned cab or Uber for a lift home if knocking them back... Come on man... Lol

Lots of wrecker services will give you a discounted (or some holidays for free) will get you and your vehicle back home. They'd rather deal with a drunk person than a bloody wreck and death. Much easier to deal with an operable vehicle in a parking lot than a crash with police involved.

I recently found out from a friend an easy way to get back home is if you have insurance that has towing included or AAA, you can "say" your vehicle is broke down and you need it taken back home to "repair" it. The wrecker will come by and pick it up along with you and take you back home. Worked perfectly for a friend who was definitely not fit to drive.

I know in many counties, you are supposed to let the permit office know within a certain amount of time of any issues that could "harm" your license. Stuff like this (getting arrested), losing guns, change of address, employment, etc. Lots of times innocent until proven guilty doesn't matter in their land of administrative paperwork. They will gladly sit on their lulls to process your permit, but will gladly yank it ASAP.

A guy I know had a misdemeanor DUI while he was carrying a handgun.
Our extremely gun friendly local judge immediately suspended his permit, then revoked it when dude didn't turn in his firearms to the state police by the date he was told to. He then brought his remaining 2 handguns to an FFL.....left them there for a year without talking yo the FFL, so the FFL took ownership of the 2 guns.
Sinse then he got another DUI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

This is how it works in my county.
Depending on the charges, they may confiscate your firearms during the proceedings.
It's not easy to get your guns taken here, ghe judge is very gun friendly. But he is also into responsibility and not fucking around with the law......and guns.
