He had a fire and has had trouble getting the insurance to pay out. I’m sure there have been delays or issues on his side but come on. There was a house that was on fire by me and it sat for 2-3 years so I could see this being an issue for him.

Fire, Insurance nightmare that in any dwelling scenario can take years, let alone a commercial situation. But hey, you don't love faster enough to our liking and we'll help you out by relieving you of your property! It isn't abandoned if the owner is actively trying to restore it. Who says how fast that should happen? Who decides! If the municipality is so concerned, they should up front the monies then at a reasonable rate! Lol...

Oh yes it is "Scanlon said a developer is expected to eventually come in and restore the 400 hotel rooms to downtown."
I'll bet that the "developer" is somehow connected to the mayor.
If the owner coughed up the $89,000 in back taxes then I don't think the city could take it. But if that happened would the building ever pass the building inspections? I doubt it.

So, the building caught fire. The owner submitted a claim against the insurance company.

Buffalo fire said it was arson. Insurance company would not pay up. Court battle was filed. The last I heard, Buffalo fire stood down from their claims, but insurance was still fighting.

The parking garage that is attached is falling apart. Hunks of the top floors continue to fall off and crash down. Parts of the second floor caved in.

Multiple water lines blew. The water mess was never cleaned up. '

He is far behind in his taxes. I am not in full agreement to what the city is going to do, he has received many notices about his failure to pay the bills that are due.
