As election day draws near, arguments arise over NYS constitutional convention

At this point in time, a constitutional convention would be great for New York city. The rest of the state, as usual, would have no say in it. I can't back it, as much as it could be a good idea, because of the balance of political power here.

In our current political climate, where New York state is controlled by the liberal progressives, do we really think a constitutional convention will end up with conservative values in mind? I'm skeptical as to whether or not this is something we should support.

I haven't read up enough on this topic yet to have an informed opinion. But I'm glad this topic was started so I can learn more.

I think it would be an unmitigated disaster; the delegates to the convention would be bought and paid for by parties whose interest don't coincide with most of ours

Be very weary of what you wish for. We wanted Rob Astorino in the last gubernatorial election. Didn't matter though. NYC once again spoke out.

The ideals of the state mean nothing. Only the ideals of the masses down in the dump matter.

Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.....referring to the constitutional convention. Things could get worse. Lots worse.

I'm not positive, we reviewed the process in a college class once. I think there are 2 per voting district. I think its like NYS senators not the ones that go to DC. Then I think there are 10 general seats that get picked in a general election.

So my take is the state senate is almost 50/50 dems to repubs, with repubs in the lead barely. But with how the 10 are picked its almost 100% guarantee that they will be picked by the city, so ultra libs. These 10 will be enough to put our side in the minority.

Therefore the best answer for our side is no convention, sadly.

I've been wondering about this myself lately and how I should vote. My personal opinion is that NYC is going to have to most sway. In short, it won't be good results for most of us. Therefore, I think I'm going to vote Nay.

I didn't do to bad from memory. The class was about 10 years ago.

I remember reading the state constitution back in the 60's, the right to keep and bear arms was the same as the federal constitution word for word. I remember thinking, well that was kind of a lazy man's approach. Recently I tried to find those words in our constitution, on line, and they weren't there. May be nothing more than an intentional omission by a one party state that is already corrupt on so many levels, but it bodes ill for any kind of resetting of American ideals that might be achieved at a constitutional convention. I think we would come away looking more like Venezuela than one of the stars on our flag.

S 4. Right to keep and bear arms. A well regulated militia being
necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to
keep and bear arms cannot be infringed.​

Frankly, the NY civil rights code states "cannot" where the federal 2A states "shall not." Legally, probably the same weight, though.

Yep, I guess that would be the equivalent to the preamble? Ah me, so long ago, but it is still there. Thank you! But I still think the convention is a bad Idea.

The CSEA Union is telling its members to vote NO because their pensions and other benefits will be taken away. It could also lead to severely restricting the 2nd Amendment (what little we have now). Funny enough, the two-page article in the monthly Union rag listed several reasons for voting NO, and 'gun rights' wasn't listed. I'd scan the article but I already threw it in the recycle bin.

Term limits would be nice, but would probably not happen anytime soon. The other thing is that there's no pre-determined timeline, and it would cost so much money. They can twiddle their thumbs and drag their feet for months, getting paid the whole time.

So again, while it would be nice to impose certain changes, in this state there is no way to guarantee it would be beneficial to US.

In theory the process should be honorable with good results if attended to by citizens with honest intentions. But NY is run by assholes elected by selfish self serving shit for brains libtards. Too many selfish interest groups. I would expect an influx of lobby influence money; legal and illegal. I would expect corruption and bribes because this is what our society has devolved to.
