My buddy has one. Runs great he loves it.

As far as the safe act.....it is still a pistol on your permit.......

Worst case.....run a brace.....

Hmmm, what about 80% builds with regard to pistols? Do they need to be registered with NYS / serialized, or would they just fall under federal ATF guidelines? I haven't really considered it, but something to interesting to think about.

All pistols have to go under your permit (even black powder technically if you want to shoot it). This is the reason why I didnt do an 80% build for the AR pistol. Didn't want aggravation trying to get through the potential red tape.

Yes to put on your license. Clerk , judge or for that matter NYSP wouldn't probably accept it to the extent of their involvement which who knows nowadays.

If assembled here in NY, whether it's a pistol on your permit or an 80 percent, it's still in violation of the Unsafe Act.

If a stock is attached, it becomes a rifle that's semi automatic that can accept a detachable magazine with more than 1 feature. Pistol grip and collapsible stock.

If a brace is installed instead, it remains a semi automatic pistol that can accept a detachable magazine with 1 questionable feature. Over 50 oz in manufactured weight and a barrel shroud depending on who you ask.

About the only legal way to make it work is making it just a firearm like this from Franklin Armory. That's questionable in itself as well.

The idea would be only to attach the Mech Tech when in PA. In NY I would have a registered pistol.
