The headline suggests he was killed by the police, but the article makes it sound like he took his own life before they entered.

Looks like he already had a mug shot.
It's pretty ambiguous. They say he took a shot at the officers, and the officers returned fire. The cops were then unable to contact him inside the house, so they made entry, and found him dead.
Could have been self inflicted but there's no mention of a second shot being heard, or he could have bled out from a hit by the cops when they returned fire.
I'm no fan of modern media, but this was written by the State Police media section, so..... not really journalists. Then again, the people writing for the MSM aren't really either, so....
