Sportsperson Definition

Hey all,

I am a Westchester permit holder with a sportsperson restriction. Seeing that our crosseyed county executive has removed it from the county clerks website I feel cooler than I did when I got it lol. Anyway wondering if anyone can point me to the actual definition of where I can carry. I have looked around quite a bit and can't find anything clear cut.

Nowhere. Your permit is no longer invalid. Go directly to the clerk's office and turn it in. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

How can the county executive change it?

Setting aside the whole argument about admin restrictions not being within the letter of the law statewide regardless of who issues your permit.

Is the county executive the "licensing officer" for your county (honestly don't know but would assume that would be a judge or judges). I doubt it.

What was it previously defined as?

I recall it being def as hiking, camping etc....But have also heard some say jogging, walking a dog, catching fireflies . Would like to just take a look at what the county defines it as today.

Apparently nothing unless I have a bad link here. I would almost suggest calling the clerk and asking but I don't want to be the one to suggest you open that can of worms.

So I googled Westchester NY Pistol Permit Application and it looks like all anyone can apply for today at all (not saying you are applying now just saying)- is:

Carry concealed
Possess on Premise
Possess / Carry during Employment.

So I'm betting any new permit issued in Westchester basically says "yeah you can have a pistol but it better not leave your house."

And here is why the Sullivan Act is a load of crap (well, one reason). I am always fascinated when I wind up looking at the different requirements and restrictions between counties.

I would love to see a case where someone with a full carry from County A moves to NYC and 1 Police Plaza tells them they are restricted to premises only when they try to transfer their permit to NYC.

In Putnam, there are currently four types of permits-

Hunting and Target
Sportsperson
Business Purposes
Unrestricted Carry

I wouldn't base your definition of Sportsperson for Westchester on what it says in Putnam (that's what I have here, FWIW).

The way I've always figured it, that things like going to the mall, the movies, a restaurant, food shopping, Etc are things that I would not be covered with.

I don't think the county exec can change it (in practice I imagine he can exert pressure to get it done). Only the "licensing officer" can make changes.
