The way the background check works, if one holds a valid DL that is the id that needs to be used. Works well for the guys in the service that have a CAC Card and Orders. (sarc) They may have lived in NY for years but still have an out of state license. The NICS process has been to accept a gov...
I skimmed thru this thread. My feeling is the WHOLE handgun permit deal in NY is unconstitutional, illegal, a registry, etc., etc. The recert process is propping up an illegal "license".
Oh, remember in the CCIA is the provision that every handgun permit holder is to go thru a monthly...
I read one of the proposed bills, maybe it was in two (or more). The phrase "no gun data database".
Here is one, in Assembley and Senate:
NY A01566
Summary
Restricts the sale of ammunition to only individuals authorized to possess such weapon; creates the no-gun database under the division of...
It is a personal choice. One I personally find difficult. Many times in the last two years I find my mind going to the history of Germany. I understand things I often have wondered about and can say, it is very uncomfortable.
It is more than that, I keep saying it is forcing gun shops to do be the ones that gather the info for the database. I keep thinking about the excuse of "I was just following orders."
It amazes me how fast and with no qualms so many do this. I keep telling customers this is for the NY database.
I believe the ones that staff this bgc are all civilian employees. I posted earlier about talking to a lady about the new crap and she told me she was a cililian reading from a cheat sheet. I think the guy I unloaded on the other day was a civilian. I don't think even a new trooper would have...
I keep thinking that once the registry is well started, it will become mandatory to carry insurance. Only from certain carriers for big dollars. The insurance lobby is strong in NY.
Oh, Mr and Mrs Smith, you do not have a policy for your 30-30, only your 22. You have bought both ammos. You are...
I tried to deal with WW. I found their communication was not good. There were rumors about other internal issues. Sometimes the little things take a company down.
Possibly he could call the NY number, 1-877-697-6427 if he hasn't. This is such a severe cluster. DS told me I would probably get flagged after my call yesterday. I think calls to legislative reps, too.
If he is a member of NSSF, they sent an email asking for issues. I sent one.
OK, this might come across not so nice.
The directions for the system are WRONG! Lots of incorrect information. Does that surprise me, no. I wonder how much the assholes were paid that wrote the directions.
The long gun check I did, have to provide:
Make, Model and SERIAL NUMBER. semi-auto...
All of that except eye color is mandatory.
Yes, quantity of ammo. By brand and claiber. I want to look up the legislatin as the form says "caliber", not gauge.
When I actually did an ammo check, email and phone were optional. The directions did not make that clear (what a surprise). Not sure about firearms' check. Soc. Security Number was mandatory, for ammo. :wtf:
I tried for about 45 min to do a ammo bgc, lots of glitches. I fianlly went to Incognito on Chrome and got it done. I did not put my maiden name in, sorry, I have to think about what it even is now, 42 years is a long time.
Had to put in Social Security number, not optional.
Street address and...
Here is the newest message on the sign in page.
An Interactive Voice Response (IVR) telephone solution is in the process of being implemented but will not be available until October. All National Instant Background Check ("NICS") transactions will need to be processed online.
Annnnd, I am...
I was tempted to do the same. What did you put for serial number on the ammo? I am not sure about the alias name part. Not sure if that would include maiden name. And it has been 42 years since I used it.
I agree, it is disgusting!
Has anyone gone to a big box for ammo? Do they have a form...
There is another thread about the bgc. I posted some of the ammo requirements for the bgc that they managed to put up on 9/12.
I have been spitting mad, to access their system you have to use a .gov account which is tied to a lot of business info. Info is being transmitted that if stolen, can...
I knew that was going to piss me off!! WTH. Does this mean the 2nd Cirvuit Court is free to continue to ignore the five cases they have had since MARCH? I don't know how I missed this.
Sorry for the derail.
Currently we have a NICS that went to Research. I can find no info on the NY site. I called NICS and confirmed still "Research" status. He thought there should be a way to check on the NY site, LOL. I did ask if the NY system goes down if the NICS checks an be picked back up by feds, he did not...
There is a process for this which is FINALLY spelled out on the Q&A sheet. I have ben doing it since that damn 30 day thing started. Do a NICS, if no answer, wait 30 days. Don't do another one prior or the ATF will jump on you (I found that out by accident.) Then do another and wait the Brady...
Here ya go, there is no such thing as a serial number on ammo. There is lots more.
6. Ammunition Information (This section will only appear for ammunition transactions) a. The following fields are required and must be answered:
Number of Ammunition – Multiple Ammunition transactions can be...
Please be advised weekly maintenance windows are on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 6:00AM through 8:00AM. During this time there may be a delay in processing transactions, do not resubmit, pending transactions will be processed upon completion of the maintenance. If you are...
I am more on the side of, do NOT go along with an illegal act. I do not abide by the "I was following orders." Not trying to be arguementative but there is a line to be drawn in my opinion. I cannot tell you how much it pisses me to have to even log ammo sales. The idea of telling the state...
Hmm, I just tried to sign on, several times, and could not. I was wondering if they by some chance actually had some DIRECTIONS up by now.
I currently have an open NICS and have no idea how I will check on it if I don't get an answer today. What a cluster.
I agree with the sentiment. Our sales on ammo are way down since the logging requirement. My ATF rep said she had no idea that the state was actually doing inspections (they are) among other things. I could go on but someone would tell me I am wrong. Not just here, either.
We have lost so many...
I started a thread asking about hams. I was going thru withdrawal yesterday not getting on NYGunforum. It won't be a good substitute but may be necessary at somepoint to be able to communicate.
In quickly reading the proposed rule change, I cannot find the 50# limit. Maybe I skimmed it to quickly. In several places it reads, "anyone who stores explosives".....
An indidual can buy gun powder. A dealer cannot without the appropriate license. This rule change seems to affect gun powder, including individuals.
I need to read thru the whole thing because many time something gets snuck in a sentence or two and left out of the rest. It appears this change...
You will find that as per the posted video, it is a rule change. It is open for ninety days for comment.
NYS has regulations for FFL's that are very different than the ATF.
There seems to be a growing trend that what is legal and well defined one day is illegal and ill defined the next...
Required monthly checks of permit holders to determine if they have criminal convictions or court orders that may disqualify them from having concealed carry permits;
Don't forget this little gem. Permit holders are under the microscope. I wonder what happens when an actual criminal misses a...
Currently NY requires a shop to send a letter to the local fire dept that there is the red box (made to certain specifications), clearly labeled as "Explosive", within fifty feet of a door, no more than fifty pounds. More than fifty pounds requires a different license and storage facility. I...
Lots of thoughts here. First, this state allows a dealer to be sued. With the new "laws" we will be front and center to the database, aka registry for the state. The camera regulations are so wrong, allow an outside agency to monitor and to keep records for TWO YEARS. Throw in the fact that...
I will attest that the guys that want one box will throw fits. They already do because ya have to show your license, clueless.
Agree totally.
Are you interested in a currently decent inventory?
I have started the registration process. I stopped at the payment part. I have to decide whether CC or bank account. A CC can be frozen at any time and has been when fraudulently used. A bank account, ugh, gives me a bad feeling. I have no idea how easily their system can (will be I predict) be...
I took another look at the legislation passed and the wording. I need to finish registering to see IF there is anything up on the site yet. I see some real potential issues, not sure if they will materialize. I will reitrate, I am impressed at how blatent the wording is as to the purpose. A...
I knew it was there, too. Up until NY becoming the POC the background check is not necessary as it is not allowed under federal law. It was mentioned on the NYS website.
I know a couple of people with cannons. It sounds like fun. Sad to think we may NEED one at some point in the near future. I...
Today I feel the same way. I have had to stop looking at the crap on the site. I found two or three other items, my blood pressure needs to come down. I honestly have no answers.
Maybe I should start a new thread but I just found this on the NY site
As of 2022, the definitions of both "rifles" and "shotguns" have been amended to include muzzle loading, flintlock, and black powder rifles and shotguns. Therefore, NYS law now requires a background check be performed prior...
I cannot tell you how many times I have had people say that this won't happen and go off on a tirade about the Safe Act. This is not 2013.
In looking at the registration, I believe this is tied in to the current NYS tax system and I have had trouble with their site. I cannot shake this awful...
nicsliason@fbi.gov
The NICS Section has been asked to send out this notice from NY to the FFLs we have on file.
All New York federal firearms licenses (FFL),
On September 13, 2023, the FBI NICS E-Check service and FBI NICS call center will no longer be available for NY FFLs to initiate...
Well, well, I got the "letter" No date on the letter. It came via email from the NICS. The state could not even get their shit together well enough to mail out 30 day ahead of the change. Starts 9/13.
I am so pissed right now I better just walk away.
That is a question that so far, no one has answered. I think ammo may get a "slide" for a bit. Many people in other states would not ask where you live to purchase ammo.
I am really starting to hate the words "common sense", kind of like Patriot Act or Concealed Carry Improvement Act. :puke:
I think I speak a different language.
