Phazer, legislating for the sake of legislating doesn't win you a thing in 2018, doing nothing is actually my biggest hope from DC and Albany, I LOVE gridlock. More and more people understand less is more when it comes to Gubmint.
You're forgetting the key component to why the GOP will be fine...
No doubt Pod, but Jackalope is right about $2k being approachable to many peoples budgets these days, particularly for what you get in return, the stuff is amazing.
Jay, I'd pass on the Palma for a Win Mag with your intended uses, and half of your 10-11lbs is already spent on the barrel alone before adding ANYTHING else on the rifle. Just for a little perspective, my win mag with a 24" MTU contour barrel, brake, rail, optic....etc in an AI chassis weighs...
Jay, WTF are you planning on hunting with that thing around these parts, Bigfoot? ;)
Bartlein 1:10, MTU contour, finished at 26" with a brake, everything from Elk to long range targets. It's going to weigh a ton if you stock it properly, even if you go with a Proof Research. Hauling around a...
Brand new GAP .243 barreled action built by Eric Reid.
Trued Rem 700, fluted bolt, 26" Hawk Hill 1:8 twist, Marksman contour, 5/8*24 threaded, Badger knob, Templar lug
SOLD
I'd love a factory tour, would sure go a long ways towards making me a DW convert.
Another solid NY maker (or shall I say former) is Fusion Firearms.
Now in Florida but still making some very nice guns.
Got a new WC on the way, but I'm thinking something like this beauty from Fusion would be...
BG, appears the Premier line has a fluted bolt, Timney trigger, and you get the scope rail and XLR chassis.
Match precision line has Bergara trigger, Bergara chassis, and no rail, barrels look to be the same.
Premiere is $1400 at Cabelas, doesn't seem like much a premium to get the Timney and...
How much for a rebarrel, cut the chamber, crown, cap and thread, & bolt work?
Your $400 figure is not an honest depiction of the costs.
Add up the cost of the action, your new trigger, a barrel, gunsmith charges for doing the work.
The TRUE cost of fully upgrading a Remington is well upwards...
I really couldn't say BG, but from what I've read about the RPR it's a very good value for your dollar, but needs upgrading like a Rem 700 to get the most out of the platform. No experience myself with the RPR but it's priced considerably lower than the Bergara or Tikka in a chassis, $1000 vs...
BG, I've not shot the Bergara but the Tikka I have, and would be my pick given the increasing amount of aftermarket parts and support for the rifle when compared to the Bergara, but if you like an XLR chassis the Bergara might be right for you.
Tikka build guns with the right twists (unlike...
You and YOU alone introduced that piece of shit stock to the discussion, thanks for playing.
I've no "anti-Rem" bias, I just know their quality control stinks when compared to a Tikka or Bergara.
Tell me again about Accuracy International, this should be good.
Notice the words "precision rifle", that's the title of the thread.
You recommended using a shit stock combined with a sub par factory action, instead of a Tikka or Bergara that will blow it out of the water every day of the week. Why offer such bad advice if you're not prepared to defend it?
The Magpul is a piece of junk when compared to any of the chassis mentioned, and you're chasing moonbeams to suggest a DIY Remington 700 will shoot like a plug and play factory Tikka. You can roll the dice with the boys at Ilion, I'll spare myself the trouble and recommend others do the same...
They're usually real good about their twists, assumed it was 1-8 or in that ballpark, unique to that rifle package?
Gotta believe they offer it in the right twist, they were way ahead of the curve when it came to their .223 builds

dsdmmat, that's a home run and exactly the kind build the OP should be considerting, thanks for the link.
Pretty much a perfect "high" end starter rifle, chassis, 6.5, and out of the box quality.
Dayten, why the dislike? Genuine question. I'm a Beretta fan and there's no arguing that Beretta on the whole makes much finer guns than Glock (typically for a LOT more $$$$) but Glocks work, and with a little customization, they REALLY work well.
Sure they're fugly, and I love ripping on...
knuts, in a sense you're already spending too much by contemplating a build without having all the data you truly need to make an informed decision. Do yourself a favor and forget about putting together the uber rifle of your dreams, buy a Tikka and spend the left over part of your budget on...
meketrefe, Remington actions and McMillan stocks are practically civil war relics!
It's pretty common knowledge that unless you've got a custom action and a chassis, you'll never be a Super Sniper!! ;)
Nice rifle, but why would anyone here in the US ever pick the FN over an AI?
It's not like the FN is an "economical" build to begin with, so what's an extra grand for the AI.
Sets are kind of tricky, what knives do you really need in a set?
I've got a middle of the range Wusthof kit like one of the choices at Williams and Sonoma and it's been a solid value, and would do it again, but I still lust after a set of Shun knives. :D
Jmac, unfortunately it's not going to take even 10 years, I see the signs now in the Thousand Island region like I've never seen in my life. Properties for sale that have been in families for generations are no longer an option when your kids and grandkids live a few hundred or thousand miles...
It's happening, slowly, but more and more rifles are coming available with it as an option. Seekins is offering their HAVAK in it, Ruger's got the RPR and Hornday making ammo for it more will definitely follow. Far more interesting to me than the new Noslers, but to each his own.
I know Federal is in the business of making ammo, but this is going nowhere IMO.
6mm is where you end up if you're truly interested in options/performance, and most already know it.
I'm truly heartened by the number of Road to Damascus-like conversions I'm seeing in this thread, the NRA fanboys are suddenly a lot less willing to toe the party line, 2012 seems like a distant memory. Quite a different tune a LOT of guys are now singing since SAFE, I can only hope everyone who...
This is like watching a bunch of kids learn Santa isn't real.
Most are already sadly aware of the NRA's long history of SUPPORTING gun control, but hopefully their latest duplicity will finally wake up those who've been foolish enough to still be donating.
72 minutes to locate and engage this madman, who's pumping 1000s of rounds down on a crowd??
Who thinks a guy could open up in Times Square for over an hour, without being engaged?
Whether it was the ACA Shootings here in Binghamton, or this tragedy in Vegas, the cavalry isn't coming.
We're in store for some command performances of phony Dem outrage like never witnessed before, screw your helmets on fellas, this is going to get ugly.
Too bad there's not any laws that make obtaining automatic weapons nearly impossible without severe vetting, expense, and approval by a Federal agency. That's all it would have taken to have prevented this tragedy.
Where have all Preet Bharara fanboys disappeared to?
I guess this is the part where I pretend to be surprised.
Leading the nation in corruption and graft, way to go NY State!!
Darth, 3rd party viability on a national level comes around how often each century?
Name me a presidential election in your lifetime you've voted in that wasn't a BINARY choice on election day.
