The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS will not be renewed for another season, with the network calling it a “financial decision.”
The cancelation comes just days after Stephen Colbert denounced his parent company’s $16 million settlement with President Donald Trump, calling it a “big, fat bribe” for the Skydance merger.
“While I was on vacation, my parent corporation Paramount paid Donald Trump a $16 million settlement over his 60 Minutes lawsuit, as someone who has always been a proud employee of this network,” he said. “I’m offended, and I don’t know if anything will ever repair my trust in this company. But just taking a stab at it, I’d say $16 million would help.”

The Late Show held the top ranking for it's timeslot among the "Big" 3 networks. So what does that mean for the others? How are they still financially afloat? Did something affect their revenue?

Damn shame what they've done.

The beauty of Carson was that he was apolitical and set the tone for the show and thereby the guests. And any time he did political jokes it was only low hanging fruit.

Have to agree with many of the posts here. When you move from "comedy show for everyone" to "liberal propaganda hour," don't be surprised when half or more of your audience finds something better to do.

That said, while I'm pretty sure that didn't help matters, the most likely cause here is the shift in media consumption. Nobody under 60 is listening to AM radio, reading newspapers, or watching local news at 5. If it isn't online or streaming, it is dying.
