I agree gun permits should be free if not extremely cheap, but as SCOTUS has ruled that permits to possess a gun are Constitutional, I would imagine they would also rule a fee to pay for such permit is within reason as long as the fee directly corrolates to the cost of the permit. Which is probably no more than $20. Fingerprints should be free.

Yeah many are hung up on the amount rather than the fee itself due to deep conditioning. It wouldn't matter if it were $1 to get a permit(license). There should be NO fee. And ultimately NO permit but one step at a time. The only way to make one understand is to keep repeating the comparison of paying to vote. Even if just $1. But I suppose there are some that would be ok with even that and missing the whole point. So maybe this is moot

i look at it this way .. the armed robber didn't get a permit and nics check .. got caught , did 1/2 yrs .. released .. and did it all over again ..

In the Bruen decision they said permits and training for guns are allowed. They then followed up saying they can’t be too expensive, too difficult, or take too long or they could violate the 2a. Since Bruen was all about NYD pistol permitting process I’m not sure what your question is? Was this a direct case of are permit constitutional no, but it was all about permits and how shall issue states handled them with you needing a justification for a concealed carry permit.

If you read the Motions in this case (as I did), and now read this utter bullshit Decision by this judge, you will, at a minimum want to throw up and hurl chunks. No standing? What a crock of shit. Suffolk County (as well as other entities within, and part of NYS government) are throwing a mountain of contrived shit in the way of citizens trying to exercise their 2A rights.
Sadly, this will continue to be used to deny rights and delay things getting fixed by SCOTUS in their hope that they can turn SCOTUS before these cases get there.

I agree there were no permits back then but since the NYSPRA v Bruen was about NYS pistol permits if the Supreme Court struck them down how come we still have them and there’s no lawsuit challenging permits. Wouldn’t that be an easy one then?
They specifically allow for permits and safety training in the Bruen decision. You don’t have to like it but that’s what was said during the ruling.

Yes. It was in Kavanagh’s concurrence. That doesn’t mean things can’t be challenged in the future, but for now they’re allowed.
I do believe He DID say that (paraphrasing) they shouldn’t be overly burdensome. So he didn’t completely say they’re ok no matter what. He left it open ended a bit.

No reread it, it is in NYS Civil rights law not the State Constitution there is a difference.
I'm talking about the post Bruen cases. I also called in and listened to one of the trials live on conference call where the judge said exactly that. The state tried to make a case of a handful of regulations and it was stated that while the judge wouldn't say exactly how many would need to be there for it to constitute a national tradition, he said it would certainly have to be more than a few and more than the state could find.

I don’t know how it works but if they said they are ok here I doubt any challenge to permits for handguns would be ruled unconstitutional. I agree we didn’t have them in the early days. I could maybe see long gun permits being overturned but I do t see concealable handgun permits being overturned. Just my thoughts and I’m certainly not and expert.

This means nothing. Alaska wasn’t even a state when history, text, and tradition was around and established by the Supreme Court, in fact most state were not. This is just saying what the state’s constitution says currently and means nothing in the context of Bruen unless that was the rules between ratification of the US constitution of 1791 and many think up until the 14th amendment was ratified in 1868.Some may not like all of what History, Text and Tradition says or what they think it says.

Bruen expanded our rights and it has to be based in history, text, and tradition from certain timeframes. When we’re these state constitutions rarified? If it wasn’t between 1791 and 1868 it’s meaningless. Also one or two outliers do not make it a tradition or the rule of the land per Bruen. The rule between Heller and Bruen have drastically changed in our favor.
