Some easy reading for you. Have a nice day!
A gun, a replica of the first revolver Colt converted to cartridges using a 1860 Army cap and ball, and probably the last gun this old man will ever buy. The shop owner says after thirty days he has to resubmit, and if after three days if there is no answer he can complete the purchase and give me the gun that I have already paid for a month ago. This is all done through the state, his access to the federal NICS is blocked by the state and he has to use the state system. For a gun or a bullet?
That’s crazy. I’m surprised they are allowed to proceed after the resubmissions and only three days. That’s been a question or grey area in the past. I hope you get it and it’s crazy about the delay. I’m assuming you have no clue why and have you bought a gun since the NYSP took over the background checks?A gun, a replica of the first revolver Colt converted to cartridges using a 1860 Army cap and ball, and probably the last gun this old man will ever buy. It is not right right but what can a man do. I was going to call my district Rep., but it seems there has been some sort of turmoil unknown to me and she has resigned. Probably wouldn't have helped but at least I had someone to represent me.
If I were a younger man and not so embedded here, I would move, no question, even though I truly love where I live.

The only "clue" I have come up with is that I am a member here, though I have always believed they monitor this sight, Doc confirmed that they not only monitor the site, but can find out who you are. That’s crazy. The gun store I frequent does the same. They just told me an ex LEO with a CCL was “under review “ for 30 days, resubmitted, “under review” for another 3 days so they let him complete the transaction. They tell me that it satisfies “the state”.That’s crazy. I’m surprised they are allowed to proceed after the resubmissions and only three days. That’s been a question or grey area in the past. Really?? How many rifles shoot "pistol caliber"? There should be NO, NONE, NOTTA any checks on ammo. Yah, register pistol caliber rifles, another registry, are you for real??? That is what this is all about, a database, aka registry. The ammo background system should deny ammo for pistol caliber ammo when you do not have a license or that caliber registered. This would end the straw purchasers. Owners of pistol caliber rifles can just register them with the state to clear the problem.
Go call Tyler Technologies and ask them what the malfunction was... after all, they are the geeks that are providing all this support.Well, one half hour after my last post at 9:42 I got a call from the gun shop to pick up my pistol. 30 days, and what was gained by anyone in this travesty to our constitution, I'll answer, nothing. Just another way for the state to fuck with the honest law abiding citizen who chooses to partake in our second amendment God given rights.

Next time, just write "ILLEGAL FROM VENEZUELA" on the form and submit it as-is.Well, one half hour after my last post at 9:42 I got a call from the gun shop to pick up my pistol. 30 days, and what was gained by anyone in this travesty to our constitution, I'll answer, nothing. same here (UPIN) except I only bought one since 9/13 and that took a couple days; at that point it wasn't a big deal because it was at Caliber Plus and I was in and out of there every other day. (took two business days to be approved)I have a UPIN and I’m delayed from 3-24 hours every time I’ve bought a new gun (3 times) since this bullshit started. Before that, proceed in 2 seconds. For ammo, I wouldn’t know because I refuse to buy it here, fyi. YMMV
Where this really sucks is Gun Shows where both Dealers and Patrons often travel from hours away...someone from Courtland isn't going to be happy about traveling three hours up to Watertown to pick up their gun because the system is fucked up.
or taking the time to vote for candidates reflecting their values. No secret... "Inconvenience" by design. Done to discourage folks from buying firearms and ammo, fucking with people just because they can. Many or most retired peeps have the time to deal with the NYS shit. But folks that are still have full time jobs, TAX PAYERS, who help fund the shitbags who make the rules for the game, can have a tough time finding the time to play the game.
or taking the time to vote for candidates reflecting their values.
Yea, yea, yea I know: "vote harder"...well the truth is a LOT of elections are decided a very small percentage, sometimes less than ten votes change everything, and while voting the Party Line is pretty simple minded, you have to resign yourself to the fact that Democrats invariably vote along the party line irrespective the candidate or their qualifications; voting Republican/Conservative across the same race cancels those (D) votes.
We're on the Soap Box, the Jury Box is working here and there, the Ballot Box is coming fast, God help us all if we get into the cartridge box.
I cannot stand when people say “ I’m not voting , it won’t change a thing here in NY.” And although , most of the time this is the case in this particular super majority fucking cesspool, I often wonder what is the actual number of the people who don’t vote because of this mentality, who are like - minded, and if it would make some difference in certain elections no matter how small and incidental they may be? Anyways, my take is …. If you you don’t vote , I do not want to listen to you bitch.Good points. When you don't vote you get what you deserve, one more up the ass here in NYS. Some people don't bother to vote because they assume nothing will change whether they vote or not. Admittedly I have been guilty of that in the past. Now I always make it a point to vote local and state, realizing my vote is likely just symbolizing, more of a protest vote than anything else. But if everyone, or more folks did a "protest" vote, it might actually = a win now and then.
Be like a Democrat.... cum election time, vote early & vote often![]()
I'm going to vote! As a newly-reregistered Democrat, I'm going to vote in the Democrat primary in June. I want to support the communist leftist over the incumbent communist leftist alarm-pulling squad-adjacent antisemite.I cannot stand when people say “ I’m not voting , it won’t change a thing here in NY.”
I still haven't bought ammo and probably won't. But I have also seen the abuse the store clerks take. My Runnings has signs about people being courteous or they will be refused service. Kind of sad it comes down to that. I see stores just doing away with the sale of ammo in the future. To them it is not worth the hassle or the time involved in selling a box of shells and then having to deal with rude customers on top of that. I believe that is the ultimate goal of the state...discourage places from even selling it. It is working.Status Report:

Operation: Buy Ammo.
Reason: Assessment.
I have not purchased a single round of ammo in NY since September 13, 2023. But today, someone at the gun club asked me "Well, I know the NY background check is a cluster-fuck setup as another deterrent to keep law abiding citizens from purchasing ammo, but in fact haven't those NY fuckers just won another battle? This is EXACTLY what they wanted! Do you think they give a shit that your gave them the finger and said , F' them - I'll buy my ammo in ---- fill in blank ---- ?"
I thought about this for awhile - and even though the guy was shooting a fuckin Glock he still made a good point.
Aren't we really just caving in and letting them win another battle as they move towards winning the war? I'm really conflicted here...
I bought some ammo today. The paperwork sucked but went fast and besides they already have all the same info from my pistol permit application. The store clerk entered my info into the NY system and my status went from PENDING - to - DELAYED in <5 seconds! ( WTF did it even check???. I told them I did NOT push my mother-in-law off that dock in Halifax - she slipped ). I was delayed for 1 HOUR and 57 minutes.
What's worse is the abuse the poor store clerks take from people in the store waiting for approvals and literally yelling at them - "What do you mean I'm delayed - f-off!!" or "What do you mean I need a background check" ( FUD alert ). One asshole was hurling f-bombs at the poor clerk.
Anyways, finally got my ammo. I was pretty pissed off for all the shit. Not sure I felt any better for buying today. Just felt maybe it was worth a fight...
I understand what you're saying but didn't you already comply to own a pistol? I'm just making a point of no push back just advances their agenda.Complying with unconstitutional laws isn't the correct answer.
Doing so is a slippery slope.
The covid fiasco is a good example of a slippery slope.
