Charter fishing Boats

Anyone know or has suggestions on where to try one of these?
a few buddies of mine wants to go on one of these but i dont know which to try, im not sure about the ones on long island as i have a feeling those will always be packed

even the ones out of state im willing to try as long as its not more than 3 hours of drive from westchester.

I went on one out of City Island in the Bronx once. It was called Island Current. It was a good time.

Mostly all are always crowded look into the Flamingo in Brooklyn of Knapp st it's been awhile but the captain and crew are pretty good always went out for blue fish ! There's always city island a few boats leave from there good luck

Yeah sheepshead bay has changed a lot you ever go out on the sea wolf use to kill the porgy on that boat i think it was run by captain Ed

The NYS D.E.C. regulated saltwater fishing by imposing seasons and quotas on different species.
You and your friends are better off fishing on Long Island, after all it's shaped like a fish.
You may be better off at Montauk Point, it holds more fishing world records than any other port.
Give me more info I will try to steer you in the right direction.
I have had some experience in this area.
I use to run a 112' foot fishing boat out of the Bronx, a charter boat out
of City Island and a ferry boat out of Montauk Point in my younger days.

6 of us went on this one a few years ago, went for shark and then striped bass. More expensive then a party boat, but a lot more fun.

Shamrock in New Rochelle is a party boat, a little smaller then the Klondike, so less people to get your lines tangled with....I hate party boats

Shamrock in New Rochelle is a party boat, a little smaller then the Klondike, so less people to get your lines tangled with....I hate party boats

Brought my son and his friend last year on the Klondike mentioned above. Didn't catch anything but had a good time. They allow you to bring your own cooler if that's important.

either one, if we get enough people to go we might go for charter but so far only 4 people are good to go, party boat is okay with us.
we really dont care what we catch, we just want to go out there and have fun and catch some delicious fish in the process so any is good with us.

Not sure but you can rent a small boat at playland if they are still there it' been awhile since I've been down that area

@knuts, If you want to stay local with 4 people someone mentioned the Klondike out of New Rochelle.
They are friends of mine. Pete and Gary are good fisherman and boatman.

A few years ago we did a crew trip in the fall for tuna one night going to Block Canyon 90 miles south of Montauk.
As we rounded Plum Gut off Orient Point the seas were running 10 to 12 feet.
I remember Pete telling me he never buried the bow yet.
The next thing you know 3 monster rollers caused us to pitch pole.
The pulpit acted as a shovel and nearly ripped the stem out of the boat.
We never made in to the to the tuna grounds that night.
We pulled into Pier 1 at Montauk, surveyed the damage, had breakfast and went back home.
That was the Klondike VII she was only 77'. The boat he now has is 100'
These boats are Lydia Crafts from Stuart, FL. They are very well built.
One year they took the boat to Florida and sailed outside the inter-coastal waterway around Cape Hatteras.
The wheelhouse stands about 20' feet above the water line and I
remember Pete telling me he had to look up at the waves. Crazy!

Party boats are terrible. The crowding -- and the crowd -- is less than desirable.

Charter is the only way to go if you can swing it.

Ha! You saw that, huh? Budweiser tab, lol. I think it was on way in, we were trying everything but they weren't having any of it. I think there was only one small bluefish caught during the day. I caught one of the nasty grunting flying fish. No action that day. You win some you lose some. Kids had a great time as did I. Was just happy to be out on the water with my boy (and his friend).

If you go on a party boat you have to pick your day.
You can't go on a weekend when it's 90 degrees.
You also have to know where on the boat you want to fish.
If you are bottom fishing or you know they will anchor up you need to fish in the stern, preferably one of the corners.
If there going to drift you want to be up in the bow.
This way your lines won't go under the boat and tangle with other people.
Fishing like a lot of other things is a science.

The kids had fun, that's all that matters.
I had mine. When we would be on a boat I would hook a fish without them
knowing and then ask them to do me a favor and hold my rod for a minute.
My only worry was that they would unexpectedly have the rod ripped out of there hand.

Not my boat(s).Capt Rob was my partner when I worked,Capt John was an officer in our command.These guys really know their shit when it comes to fishing.In all the years I know them,I've never heard of anybody getting skunked.I used to go out for bass with them a couple times a year and as a side before we went after the bass,they'd do a little blue fishing as a warm up,which was always worth the trip alone.They had a deal with a couple of the clam boats,not allowed to follow them without permission,if you've never fished for bass behind a clam boat,you'll be amazed at the success.Its hit or miss being on the boat when the clam boats are out,but even without them,these guys are amazing at finding bass.

Correct. Mamaroneck gave up the skiffs about 6 or 7 years ago.
