Once I was hunting some public land where I had scouted extensively in the pre-season and seen beds, scrapes, and lots of turds. Obviously it's blistering cold all day and I don't see squat. Driving home, I don't go a quarter mile from where I parked before seeing a beautiful 8-pointer grazing right next to the shoulder. I pulled right up to him, rolled down the window, told him how lucky he was, and drove off half laughing, half fuming.

I hunt my parents property in Scio, NY and I saw two doe that I watched eat grass and golden rod for 45 minutes one day. I walked up in the middle of the afternoon and they were there. I had no doe tag. Next year I had a doe tag and saw one doe I had a quick shot at, but missed. Every time I leave hunting there is a field about 1/4 mile away and there are always between 5-25 deer in. I always wonder since it’s not posted if they would care if I shot one. I drive by every time and say yes fuck you too. I always say this is them flipping me the bird for trying to kill them.
Might be worth it to go knock on the property owners' door and ask if they would consider allowing you to hunt the property.
I have no idea who owns it or I already would have. There is only a barn close by and a huge field. No posted signs so no name or phone number. I never see anyone there or anyone hunting it. Huge backdrop too since it’s up the side of a mountain.
