Gov. Cuomo plans to ban plastic bags statewide starting next year.

The governor introduced a bill Monday that would ban single-use, plastic carryout bags from any point of sale, his office announced.

The bill exempts garment bags, trash bags and bags used to wrap food such as fruit and sliced meats

If passed by the legislature, the measure would take effect Jan. 1, 2019.

Why can't these pols just mind their own fucking business and stop trying to control every aspect of our lives.

As much as I hate the idea of bans I think it would be better to get back to paper bags or switch to reusable bags instead of having millions of plastic bags blowing around and stuffed into landfills.

We use the plastic but I never throw one out and we always bring them to those recycling bins they have. People don't like paper because plastic are easier to carry. I'd be OK with bringing my own bags.

Regardless, Cuomo is still a dickless asshole so I really don't give a shit what he says. FUAC.

My biggest issue with plastics is that they end up in the ocean. I really like seafood but this shit ends up in these big garbage floating islands, and as the plastic breaks down in salt water fish end up eating it. And then I eat the fish, which now has trace levels of these things you really don't want in your body.

Call me self interested but I'd love to see their use reduced TBH. Nevertheless FUAC, as I am sure the way they will enforce this will involve "fining"/taxing us in some way. Its all about money for these people.

I have never been a fan of these bags. We do all that we can not to receive them. However, I do not think that the Government needs to completely ban them.

More overstep and over reach by those who think they matter more than they do.

I go to Puerto Rico and their grocery stores have a heavy duty reusable bag that you have to pay $1 for. Don’t want to buy a bag, no problem bring your own. Most people bring a few bags they bought a couple years ago

After a windy day the hedgerows behind my house always has additional plastic bags stuck in them along with the existing bags that are already stuck there. The plastic bags get caught up in the branches and scrub. A lot of them too, I live in a rural area on a rural road so I don't know where they all come from... No it's not me, LOL

Sometimes I will find some plastic bags caught up in the big pine trees that are in my front yard.
Again, I don't know where they all come from... There is not a lot of people around here.

The ditch that runs along the front of my property always has empty pop and beer cans in it along with fast food bags and some other assorted crap. Everytime before I mow the grass I grab the bucket and pick up the crap that people throw into the ditch.

Most people are assholes IMO and they throw their trash where ever that is convenient for them at the time.
That's the real problem here... So we should just Ban Assholes !!! --- That would be the end of FUAC if nothing else.
