Making cider this weekend and none of my kids will be able to make it. All are either directly or indirectly affected by the shutdown. However they are unwavering in their support of the current administration.

The democrats are always playing a game of chicken with the shutdowns.
They want to use them for leverage, but if they go on too long people start to wonder why we need to start it back up again.
Which is why during a shutdown when they're in the white house they'll actually spend *more* money to create visible signs of the shutdown.
The one I remember is then closing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for a shutdown in DC.
There is no cost to keeping it open, it's not manned. They had to specifically send people out to rope it off to shut it down.
Just doing what they do on school budgets.

I went to Drum last weekend and things were running pretty much as they always have...The Federal Police were all working even though they won't get a paycheck, they will be paid once Funding is back up and running, it's less than ideal, but we knew what we were getting into when we swore the Oath, and while it sucks there are those that still believe in the concept of "Duty".
This is the whole thing, they will get the paycheck; it might be late, but they will 100% get their checks. As soon as the circus creatures vote in the positive.
May suck for a bit, but, they will all be paid.

Read an article about why there's a shortage of labor for some positions like that during a shutdown, even when most are working.
If they take vacation time during a shutdown, when the shutdown is over it's counted as "furlough" not against their vacation time. But they get the back pay all the same.
So, there's a very strong incentive for all of them to take as much of their saved vacation time as they can, because when it's all done they get it all back.
i would not be surprised if heil hochul orders the NYSP to stop processing background checks with the claim that the Fed system is offline for the shutdown.
This would get a lot of "at least they didn't touch my shotgun" crowd to think this is all Trump's fault.
