I seem to remember reading one of the obscure provision in either the CCIA or the bullshit they fucked Dealers with on checks: If the system wasn't available, that checks could be forgone...thinking on it, it was likely the ammunition Check, but might be something in the firearms BGC provisions as well.i would not be surprised if heil hochul orders the NYSP to stop processing background checks with the claim that the Fed system is offline for the shutdown.
This would get a lot of "at least they didn't touch my shotgun" crowd to think this is all Trump's fault.
Perhaps DOGE will be able to review the all the Services/Administrations/Departments/Agencies/etc. shut down, determine their relevance and impact then determine if they should remain open....sort of like what the BRAC process that closed a LOT of Military Bases.Has anyone priced the shutdown? Maybe a way to save this country is for the government to only operate one week a month. I haven’t noticed anything and I flew.
Did they actually give Barney any bullets for his gun?

Not to be dismissive, and in it's face withholding Pay for Congress sounds like a good idea, it's merely a token gesture: unless this is you first term and you're "broke" like AOC claimed when she went to Washington, you've got million(s) in the Bank and investments and if I were faced with not getting a Paycheck that I needed, I'd call my investment manager and have $10K transferred to our Bank account (assuming there wasn't enough in there to start with) The idea of people in High Government Office being paid well is to prevent economical hardships from being exploited by outside forces...too bad that doesn't work for fine looking pussy supplied by the Chinese see Eric Swalwell. When they cave (and they will), Chuck U Shumer will save face by throwing under the bus those that he "allowed" to cross the proverbial line in the sand. That way he will have a fighting chance at keeping his "job".
BTW... It has been bugging the shit out of me (or was that just the cleanse before my recent colonoscopy?)…Why the fug is congress still collecting a paycheck? I had to look it up! Turns out it's in the Constitution (kind of)…
Article I, Section 6 of the Constitution states: "The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States." This one says nothing about frequency or timing of compensation, only that they will be comped.
And then there is the 27th Amendment (ratified 1992)… "No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened." This one was supposed to prevent congress from giving themselves a raise, and also interpreted to mean no cut in pay either.
I call BS on both interpretations! Dock their pay and fine them as if they were gov't contractors late on a contract, maybe $1000/day for each member!
Careful, this will get shut down like the food stamp thread. No SNAP benefits? Wonder if people are going to SNAP?
That thread was going very well. Lots of accurate info and valid concerns shared by everyone. Best thread in a while, IMO.Careful, this will get shut down like the food stamp thread.
Ending SNAP would likely reduce Type II diabetes prevalence long-term by curbing access to cheap, processed carbs and sugars that exacerbate obesity—SNAP users show 44% obesity rates versus 38% for eligible non-users. Caloric restriction from lost benefits could spur weight loss and better insulin sensitivity, countering the program's ties to poor dietary choices. Short-term spikes in complications loom for current patients due to food insecurity, but self-reliance and private innovations might drive healthier national trends overall. As per Grok....
Shutting down EBT forever would unleash immediate turmoil in U.S. cities, where roughly 42 million SNAP users—concentrated in urban poor areas like parts of Chicago or Baltimore—lose food access overnight.
Grocery runs turn to looting, crime surges as desperation mounts, and hospitals overload with malnutrition cases, potentially igniting widespread riots in high-dependency zones exceeding 20% participation.
Long-term, cities depopulate as residents flee for rural self-reliance or black markets, crippling local economies but eroding welfare traps and spurring private innovation or charity to fill voids.
Rural enclaves in Utah (SNAP participation 4.8%, per USDA data), Wyoming, and North Dakota (6.2%) offer prime safety due to sparse densities under 10/sq mi and robust farming economies fostering self-reliance.
Demographics show high workforce engagement (80%+), low poverty (under 10%), and minimal urban dependency, buffering against riots. Suburbs near Boise, ID, or Cheyenne, WY, balance access with isolation, prioritizing armed homesteads over dense welfare hubs.
I knew of stores in NY that will ring up a fake EBT transaction and give the cardholder half the amount back in cash. Anyone only getting 25% back needs to find a better Bodega.View attachment 274849
Americans Blow the Whistle on Massive SNAP EBT Fraud
More citizens are exposing the truth about the SNAP Food Stamp program, revealing widespread fraud across major cities. One man explained how recipients sell thousands in food stamps for quick cash—often getting $4,000 in benefits and trading them for $1,000 at local delis or corner stores. He says this practice is “happening everywhere,” yet few will admit it. The Biden-era welfare system is being abused on a massive scale while hardworking Americans foot the bill.
Correction: The ONLY memorable government shutdown of my lifetime.I'm going to NY soon. It would totally be worth going out of my way if I could take a selfie in front of the former east wing of the white house. That would make it the most memorable government shutdown of my lifetime.
