I have questions about this fatality. The first and foremost: Why would the Airman take his loaded gun off and lay it on a surface in such a way the barrel is pointing at his chest?
This just seems to go against every gun safety training course I have ever had.

They're likely on video seeing as this is a nuclear base feel like there's a good chance this area was under surveillance.
Regardless, the circumstances still seem to indicate the p320 appears to have malfunctioned and fired on its own while secured in a holster and not being touched....
Maybe, however the Air Force Safety office will get to the bottom of it. Then we can FOIS the report in about a year.
While this does violate gun safety rules pistols SHOULD NOT DISCHARGE IN A HOLSTER! Period.

Well, the P320 has 3 dead and more than a dozen injuries so far but the Clinton's are probably well ahead of that

Honestly, Sig has become the laughing stock of the firearms industry. They have a bad product. They know it and everyone knows it. If they had just owned the problem and issued a recall if would not be getting the flack that it does today.
My very first pistol was a Sig P250 (the hammer fired predecessor of the P320). I also own a P226 a P365 (my everyday carry) and a P365XL. I purchased a P320 when they first came out. They were part of the original "recall but not really a recall" that supposedly fixed "the problem that wasn't a problem." I've never had an issue with it but I also do not trust it. It's a safe queen right now with occasionally use at the backyard range (no one else will allow it lol). I'll probably hold onto it because I'll never be able to get anything for it.
I'm not going to get rid of any of my other Sigs but I do not plan on buying another one anytime soon. The actions of this company have soured (or should be sauered) me to patronize them anymore.

Holster Company Halts Manufacture of All Sig Sauer P320 Holsters

According to some of the information I have read on the interwebs ( take that for what it is worth) the airman who died was the desk sergeant and was not the airman who took the gun and holster off his belt and placed it on the desk. This twist to the story makes a lot more sense than the initial story. The desk Sergeant would not normally wear plates or soft body armor due to the level of security in the area they are at for their shift. I am sure the USAF is going to charge the Airman negligent homicide (because that is what they do) and convene a courts martial. The good news in all of this is what really happened will come out in both the criminal investigation and the safety investigation. No hiding the truth.
With all the bad press around the 320 maybe magazines will become available at reasonable prices.

Just checked (without the Sheetrock screw) all 6 of my 320s ( 4 legions, M17 and M18) none of them would fire. I also had a counseling session with all of them about uncommanded discharges. I am confident I have nothing to worry about.
