Hochul pushing liberal sheriff nominee in Dutchess

Imperati, that served under Butch Anderson for decades, was the undersheriff and wants to take over / run. Butch was grooming him to take over anyway, and he shares conservative values of the community.

Hochul seems to think she knows better, and wants to appoint the daughter of a Wappinger Democratic Committee chairperson apparently. The last things residents need is to be harassed unfairly by some political appointee.

This is an elected position. The people did not, and do not want, her as sheriff. If they push her into office, it violates the will of the people. That's not government -- that's tyranny.

Basically Hochul can appoint an interim sheriff to break the balls of regular citizens, since Anderson died in office. Rather than respect the will of the outgoing sheriff, she's willing to appoint an LGBTQ+ sheriff of her choosing and overrule the wants of the people. She's willing to go against the local will of the people and their desire for local representation.

Previously elected sheriff died before the end of his term. Governor gets to appoint a replacement to fill the rest of his term.

The only Democrat to hold a Dutchess countywide office is Comptroller Robin Lois. She told Mid-Hudson News that, if Governor Hochul seeks her input, she will recommend Imperati for the job. “I will say there is no other choice,” Lois said.

Hate to go against the grain, but we should look at the politics of the person above all else. I'm not saying Hanlon's politics are better than Imperati's, or the level of experience, but what matters is what will or won't be enforced. That's what I care about.
