It’s not normal, not at all and I’d love to see every politician in the USA come out against it but it won’t happen. I also think they way they justified gay marriage is problematic for keeping pedophilia and polygamy illegal. Even polygamy fine as long as they are consenting adualts fine. FYI.... it's not called weed for nothing, it grows like a fk'n weed and it's really easy to grow. When I was in my '20s I used to grow pot and give it to friends for Christmas and birthday gifts LOL. Now being the tender age of 72 I don't smoke weed any more, I'm fucked up enough without it just ask my ex wife. But if I did plan to roll a fat boy or load a pipe, I wouldn't trust the shit that the state has approved, and I sure as hell wouldn't buy it off the street due to the fentanyl problems.

3 years ago, a farmer leased some land to a pot grower, for CBD oil. It is still in storage.
At night the traffic on my road was insane as thieves came in and harvested the weed nightly, for weeks..small amts......................not sure of the quality it was, but criminals will steal pot.
Since then the land was herbicided in the fall, plowed under, and planted in the spring for hard shell corn. Now going into soybeans.

The farm across the road from me was the first large hemp farm when it first became legal in NYS. The first year it was just hemp, had no thc or cbd. She netted over a million on that first crop, I believe it was about 80 acres worth. In the following year they allowed cbd in NY and she switched to the cbd crop. Had no problem selling that. I suspect the farm by you grew CBD grade illegally as it wasnt legal til 2 yrs ago and that is why they couldnt unload it. This was all outdoor grow. Neither of those will get you high. Never had any problem with theft at all. When she went to full potency THC grade in order to get the permit she had to take extensive security measures, secure fencing, cameras and 24 hr security. She offered me a job heading her security detail. When she did the math, it was more economical to put up greenhouses and grow it inside and work with less security. She has six 30'x100' greenhouses and is putting up a couple more. She now has close to a thousand pounds in storage waiting for the state to tell her who she can sell to. Like I said, theres been no thefts or attempts. The first year when she grew hemp I was sitting on my porch and saw 2 trooper cars flying past my house and pull into her driveway. I went down to see what was happening and the troopers had her husband in cuffs. Apparently someone called and told the cops they were harvesting fields of pot. Troopers thought they had the mother load. The stuff looked and smelled like hi quality weed. They didnt want to hear shit about it being hemp. She was good friends with the Columbia County sheriff and called him to come straighten it out.

The biggest mistake in my life was smoking cigarettes for far too many years. It's not just tobacco ,its the chemicals in it. If everyone worries about fentanyl they should see what goes into cigarettes. They control how addictive it is too. Now I see my oldest son addicted to chew and I hate it.

There were many reports of people stealing hemp and CBD a weed by me prior to THC weed being legal. Many friends and farmers told me it was happening so I’d believe it.

I have no doubt that it was happening, just wasnt happening here. The first year it was just hemp and they didnt need fences, just signs all around the fields saying that it contained no intoxicating substances and smoking it would get you sick. No theft problems. I was joking with her and said if she noticed me passed out in the field it was just because I fell off the wagon and started smoking again, it looked and smelled better that the crap we smoked in the 70's. People around town were complaining about the smell. A farmer on the other side of town has about 800 acres of farm land thats adjacent to a 200 acre plot owned by the town that they lease out for farming. So this farmer leased 50 acres and grew hemp. The town was up in arms about the smell. Next year they wouldnt lease him the land so he planted 100 acres on his own land.... right across the road from the town owned land, so they still got the smell but not the money. When word got out that they had been licensed to grow the real stuff, people lost their minds, worried about the smell. The town had a meeting to discuss how to deal with any problems with this new crop. Theres a big community of part time residents, mostly weekenders from down state and that was the majority of those that attended. When it was time for the farmer to respond, was actually her husband, a big black man, ex NBA ballplayer got up and said they are trying to keep the farm afloat and make some money, would they rather he puts up affordable housing and imported residents from Newark? Shoulda heard the collective gasp in that room.
