My son recently took his hunter safety course at the HF&GC and at the end, they talked to us about membership to the club and how reasonably priced it is ($40-$45/yr family rate). I'm curious if anyone has ever been a member there, and if it's worth doing, or any other experiences with the club.

I'm not familiar with them, but regardless at that rate it's a screaming bargain. They are outer perimeter enough so I would bet their membership is full of like minded people. If I were a bit closer , I'd look at membership.
For reference, that's cheaper than lunch for 2 these days.

Yeah. I got the sense from the instructors (volunteers from the club) were pretty annoyed with many of the current laws, though there was some hedging toward FUDD a couple times. I'll have to find a sponsor, but I'll probably pull the trigger on it sooner rather than later.

I can't speak to the value foe the membership cost. I don't know much about what the club offers to members. Our club is a bit higher (after the first year "building assessment fee") but we offer a ton for all sportsman.

Lima gun club is about the same cost, maybe a bit cheaper, and a lot closer to you. 100, 50 yard ranges and pistol. Two trap houses, once your briefed on them, you can stop in and shoot a round whenever you feel like it. Very casual atmosphere and judging by the news letter, definitely fed up with NYS bullshit gun laws and harassment.

I’m a member of Brooks and Hemlock.
Brooks is expensive but offers the most. Trap, skeet, sporting clays, archery and now a 3D archery range, 8 pistols bays, 50-100-200 yard rifle range. Lots of leagues to keep you busy all year.
Hemlock is not as strict as Brooks on their shooting ranges. If I want to put a target at any distance between 2’ and 100 yards I can. Which I need to do.
Hemlock is also a social club. It’s the only bar in town. Most of the members don’t even shoot. They do have benefits to help local charities.

Livingston County Trap league...clubs like Lima, Mt Morris, Honeyoe, Spring Water, Mumford..etc on Sundays.

It is a good idea to join a gun or sportsmen’s club. With the way things are going, those clubs could become obsolete. Even if you don’t shoot regularly, you help the club to grow and maintain itself.

Ive thinking about joiining either HF&G or Hemlock......I would need a sponsor too... I woudl have one as freinds are members. Im thiking of getting feet wet into skeet or trap for some fun. Dont really know wher the Hemlock one its back from the road I bit so never seen it....may try to drive up to take a peak someday once I know which drive it is.......dont want to be too nosey...but we used to go to the HR&G for Halloween haunt rides with kids back when they had it. seems like a nice club and many seem to enjoy it. Im actuall closer to Hemlock by a lil bit but again have to look into that more in the spring or something.

Cant go wrong with any place if you cant shoot at your home. I can but still want to so I can do skeet or trap....

I was actually a member at LGC years back. A neighbor hooked me up with the membership back before the ranges were locked down and all that. It was a decent range, but I never got into the meetings and stuff and let my membership lapse.

My wife actually discovered that she's friends with someone that's a member there that would sponsor us. If I end up actually following through (damn ADHD, I swear, I suck at following through) and getting a membership there, I'd be happy to sponsor you.
