Hypothetical question...

My property is located in the DMP area of 9P. I had a point and still was not enough to get a Doe Tag. Missed out last year as well. Oh well, life goes on.

Now for my hypothetical question...

Say there are out of State residents that have land near-by, we'll say they come up each and every year to hunt. During conversations, they tell you that they have never received a Doe tag for the area. This year will be the same due to the fact that there are none available for Out of Staters.... They will shoot and kill doe; no question. They will shoot big, small and tiny, they do not care.

Hypothetically, they do this again this year, do I turn them in to the DEC? Or just turn a blind eye?

If it was a mistake then I'd say screw it. This crew sounds like they're perpetual abusers. I'd let DEC know about it and let them deal with it.

In the 70's the deer population was near decimated in NY. It needs to be managed to keep it healthy. People like those described don't help.

If you think people like that will contribute to the decimation of the deer population then you might have cause to not mind your business.

However, if they don't kill one, a car will. I see one almost everyday on my travels on the side of the road. I do not think they are in danger of being hunted out.

First, I abide as much as I can with the law and they are not.

Second, I am not even sure how the whole DMP thing works. Them taking dear unlawfully, does it affect the way the DMP program works?

Last year's winter was very mild and a lot of deer who should not have survived did. There will be more deer that starve to death this winter than the previous one.

I'll add I know a family that have never had much, regular old hillbillies. I know for a fact he takes deer all year but only to feed his family, I have no problem with that.

I vote turn them in. If they were just looking for food, that's one thing, but if they just like shooting deer, screw 'em. Call the safe at hotline too and say they had AR-Glock machine guns. You might get rich!!!

Supposedly the DMP numbers are based on population - if you kill more does this year, there will be less fawns next year and less mature deer after that. If they're not releasing a lot of doe tags, they're trying to grow the population.

The number of deer on the side of the road has no relation to the health of the overall population. Its too small of a sample size to try and model a population.

Do as you wish on your own property, and let them break the law on their own? I personally have a hard time with the concept of people or organizations telling me what I can and can't do on my own land, within my fence-line. Subject to appropriate stewardship and safety concerns, of course.

Now if their disregard for the legalities were to overflow onto your property, or somehow implicate you if they were to get caught, that's a different story.

But if you're asking, then that means you are just seeking validation for a choice you're trying to make, but are conflicted with.

Bottom line... If they're doing something wrong, knowingly, then they have already made a conscious decision to accept the risk for their actions. Whether you give them up, or they're found on their own by someone else has no bearing. Facilitating their being found doesn't change the fact they were doing something they shouldn't be. It's all their bag and nobody else's.

As for Snitching? That's hood shit... Laughable!

As for minding our own business? Well, my thought reverts to thinking if they are ok with being unlawful in one aspect, well then, will they graduate? Move on to bigger and better?

If they were growing pot, or making moonshine or anything else that doesnt impact MY environment, I would not care.
However, if they are killing every deer they see, that will impact MY environment so I will turn them in.
Years back I had several people poaching on my property out of season. I not only called the law, I helped them catch and procecute the offenders.
If everyone had your attitude, the deer population would fall AGAIN and impact many people.
This has NOTHING to do with snitching, it has to do with protecting the wildlife.
There are alot of idiots out there.
I dont like people in general and definitely care more for the deer than humans.

I agree. On some hunting forum, there is some Fudd on there writing a post that he saw a guy in the woods with a fully featured AR with a 30 round magazine target shooting. He is asking his friends on there if he should report him.

Not sure I understand. The tags are estimated and distributed according to conservation efforts.
This is one of the few things that is somewhat well managed, mainly because the people who survey
and estimate do care and talk to the people. At least in the places I know.
So by letting poachers alone we are not helping. See if you can make sure they are informed but
otherwise you need to stop that garbage.
Outdoors folks we have a responsibility to take care of the environment because we know how
fragile this if not protected.

I havent bought anything in a 6 pack for over 2 decades.
The lead I shoot is in one area and I pick it up several times a year.
Also, im not saying im perfect but slaughtering every deer you see, big, small and tiny is just poor environmental care and immediately harmful.
We all know you dont care about anything but if everyone thought like you, life would be pretty miserable.
Ive moved away from society once, and then even farther recently. I have done this to stay away from idiot of all types. If some of these idiots come to where I am to poach deer, ill make them go away.

I own between 1 and 3,000,000 acres of land in the Adirondacks. In what way will "poaching" (which isa crap definition, as that is a state made up bunch of BS) harm my land, assuming you are not on it? (As I fully agree with trespassing laws.)

If you don't value the animals, it won't effect you.

Deer, turkey, ducks, geese, etc. have all been hunted in the past to the point that the populations were threatened. The reason they have rebounded so successfully is because of the wildlife management practices we have in place now - tags, game limits, etc.

One hunter taking game irresponsibly doesn't matter. Many hunters taking game irresponsibly makes a big difference.
