Lewis County sheriff suggested Gun Club close the range

@dsdmmat I would think he made a suggestion looking out for your Club. Cuomo would love nothing better then to make an example of a Gun Club! This is from another nearby Club to me not my Club but it say's it all.

Greetings All- questions on whether members can use any part of the Club- the answer is NO. We are deemed by NYS as "non-essential" and must follow NYS ban guidelines. Violations are subject to Public Health fines of $10,000 per occurrence! Any member that violates the Ban guidelines and trespasses will be subject to disciplinary actions including membership revoke. If you need to gain access to Club property for any reason, please contact a club Officer and make arrangements. The only persons allowed on property are Club Officers/Board. If you have any questions, please reach out to any of the 4 Officers. Thank you- Stay Home and Stay Safe. Let's all get through this without any health issues.

How many $10.000 fines can your Club afford?

Believe me I've been home for the past 3 weeks with at least 3 more to go! And really want to go to the club and shoot. and I can shoot at home.

Club is private, most club charters members are "owners" I see no issues as long as club post something about maintaining distance. Secondly all State parks are open for recreation as long as you distance, what's the difference other than we're deplorable

As are VFW and American Legion Halls and such and they are all shut down.

As a seasonal resident I only know of him by post I see on Facebook, of which he seams very pro 2nd. Is it possible he is trying to save the club trouble from Cuomo's State Police or the Green DEC which is probably worse..

My club thought it over and decided that we are all adults and can stay 6' apart without issue, so the skeet, trap and range's are still open but the club house and all organized events are closed. I've been there a few times lately and no crowds at all, in fact last time there I was the only shooter for an hour then two others showed up and left after about an hour then I was alone again for almost two more hours!

We regret to inform you that the Lewis county Sheriffs dept has suggested that we shut down the range until further notice. There will be a new chain on the gait. This is for your own protection . We hope this shit is over soon.

I think there is a combination of fear and competition to see who can go fullest retard in the name of public health.

And it seems like those in the higher risk groups - old, obese, health issues - are willing to sacrifice everyone else's freedom and fortune to protect themselves.

@dsdmmat and i talked about this but i very much doubt that the actual Sheriff even knows about this.

This is the actions of a Fudd of a club president who is decided to close the club without an actual written order and just some conversation with someone in the department that he won't even name. The same president who sent out letters last year saying we can't bring kids to the range anymore because of a bullshit NYS law that was passed. I am very sure the guy heard one thing and decided to do another. When I asked about this to my borther-in-law who is a LCS deputy and he said he has heard nothing of it and it just doesn't make sense to close the place. The issue here is the club president not the Sheriff. As soon as the Sheriff does get wind of this and i reckon that will be soon the club president is going to look like an ass and maybe people will actually vote to get him out. But wait... in the three years i have been a member there I don't even recall there ever begin a vote to vote any of the officers because it is a run by old fudds who do as they please, who have a meeting once a year at a place no where near the club and during working hours that people who actually have a job can attend and with no care of what the members who pay dues actually want. Now it is a moot point because the club president is not going to budge even if this gets clarified as he can't be wrong and really doesn't want anyone using the club besides himself and his selected people as it is.

Great facility with bad leaders. I am 100% sure that if myself or any other member actually said this to him he would just say you dont have to shoot here and your membership is revoked because when you give power to powerless people they abuse it.

There are other ranges in the county that I am sure are not playing this game and are operating normally.

Well word is the Sheriff was asked about this this morning and confirmed his office never said this and is upset about it. I am just hoping that the club president keeps digging his hole deeper with this and members get pissed off at him.

depending on how its chartered this is a BIG no no. if its registered non profit HAS to be notice of elections, annual budget, quorums etc.

No problem at the only club I shoot at.
Im not a member, I go with my buddy who is a member.
We only go to use the pistol range.
The members there are such fudds that the pistol range in completely empty and in serious disarray.
The Skeet & Trap area is great.
My friend even brough a lawn mower last Spring because they wont even mow the pistol range.
The rifle range is also empty......except for 1 week just before big game season.
Call out to Falconer R&G in Jamestown NY.......bunch of FUDDS!!!

Not to hijack this thread but I think what we see here is just another example of over-reaction that has been evident from the start as everyone from the President on down is just winging it in response to evolving situations.

A nephew belongs to a club in a southern state that recently shut down entirely. This is a sprawling facility with probably 20 separate pistol bays ranging from big enough for holding competition stages to only 10-15 yards deep and more for individual use. A covered rifle bench area has 20 benches. Both of these areas are open to members & guests only, except for club sponsored events.

But it also has several trap & skeet fields that are open to the public 3 times a week. Last Sunday a state-wide stay home order took effect but the trap & skeet fields were crowded anyhow. And those not actively shooting were congregating around picnic benches. This included at least 2 members of the Board of Directors.

And someone pointed out this violation of the new state order.

As is unfortunately typical in situations like this the reaction was an over-reaction. Phone calls were made between SOME of the Board members and it was decided that rather than close the "open to the public" (trap & skeet) events and go "members only" or point fingers at one specific group of (shotgun) shooters or call out specific Board members the club would simply be closed entirely for the duration of the state's stay home order, which is 1 month unless extended.

And some members are PISSED!!!!!!!!! Since this action was not taken as a result of an official Board meeting but, rather, an ad hoc conference call on the part of SOME board members a group of members is petitioning for ALL club members to be refunded 1/12th of the annual dues since they are being deprived of 1 month's use of the club.

Annual dues are $125 for this club. One month's worth would be $10.42. Now this may seem like a silly, inconsequential amount but.......................

Membership is capped at 1,000 members. So this group is suggesting that the club refund $10,420 from the treasury or a reopening of the club to members and the Board is now shitting bricks trying to figure out how to deal with this crisis.

Again, sorry if this seems like a hijack but just wanted to show that such idiocy is rampant all over the country.

Private property, so is every other business! ( Including golf courses that are also shut down! )

Did you read my response in post #2 ?

Now you could go to Court ( And even WIN!!) Do you think the Court will allow the range to say open ? And good Lawyer would cost you up to what $400.00 an hour. How fast does 100 hours accumulate ? Does your range have better things to spend $40.000 on, if they even have it to spend ? In the mean time the shut-down is lifted!

Remember Cuomo would love nothing better then make an example of a Gun Range!!
