Amendment (Amendment XXVI) to the United States Constitution establishes a nationally standardized minimum age of 18 for participation in state and federal elections. It was proposed by Congress on March 23, 1971, and three-fourths of the states ratified it by July 1, 1971.

This is absurd.

Twenty-One was the accepted age of adulthood since Adam and Eve.

Assigning18 year-olds the rights of adults was a major error.

Age is a terrible proxy for maturity. It's not much better than shoe size.

We absolutely need a better way to decide who has reached adulthood than "managed to not die for x years".

actually, in 1972 thru ( I think ) 1984, the drinking age in New Yorkistan was 18, to "align with the voting age and accepted adulthood" But in '84 they raised the age to 21.

Now that I think about it, the drinking age may have been raised from 18 to 19 at some point, then in 84 the moved it up to 21.

NY had a drinking age? Haha ok.
If you can be drafted to go die you are a man and can own guns, drink, drive, etc., in case we haven't figured it out, moving the age limits higher only gave us the immaturity we see in "adults" now. Ask any veteran.

And the voting age was dropped from 21 to 18 in 71.

In 1970 a 19 year old could drink but not vote.

Just a couple years later it was the other way around.

I say 21 or older...think of all the things prohibited to "Adults" under the age of 21, which is developmentally the minimum age.

And on their own health insurance. I don’t support switching genders for many reasons but one is religious and I don’t want my money being spent on it. My kids are on my health insurance that I pay for so I should be able to say no you can’t do this with my money and my policy. I can with my cars and car insurance.
