What they fail to understand is NYC is filled with tourists. Raising the minimum wage that much will cause everything to increase. This will lead to less tourism.

I worked for the Department of Defense (Army) as a Journeyman Automotive Mechanic, one of the highest paid positions on Post for Civilians not in management or GS: My wage grade and step never got close to $30. although it has gone up to about that now....That's not mowing grass or picking up trash, it's skilled technical Work.

They only want to increase wages because it will increase payroll taxes. I bet >95% of the working class doesn't even know their employer contributes in addition to the regular withholdings, basically mirroring what the employee pays.
That's their dream.
In reality the only thing that goes up is the unemployment claims and the cost of whatever product the companies sell.

Why stop there? Why not make it $100? Then everyone can afford everything they want, and we wont need free busses or to tax the wealthy into oblivion. Why didnt anyone think of this before?
I watched a video not too far back, many a month ago. Interviewer was going around the city asking small business owners what they thought of this.
