Open carry and concealed carry have been c!early defined and differentiated in several SCOTUS rulings. Even though NYS law does not directly make open carry illegal, they will arrest you and probably use the " historically understood " crap to convict you.

Carrying a firearm in NYS is illegal … then it makes an exception for a pistol permit for concealed carry. Then the exception for open carry is for security guards.

Yep, and the second they retire , it’s a felony for them to possess under NYS law unless it’s that service gun that they paid for. Police are often made to buy their service guns. And that exemption is limited to that gun.
You can argue your case until the cows come home but SCOTUS has spoken. They can require training and I believe they justify that under the 18th century definition of what a militia was . A group of oridinary guys who brought their own weapons to provide for the common defense. And they did train and did have some regulations both before and after the ratification of the second amendment.
Courthouses and polling places were sensitive areas before and after the ratification of the 2nd amendment. Schools and Churches ? I know it was frowned upon in Churches. I don’t know if such thoughts applied to schools.
I concur, however none of the retirees I've spoken with have any plans to surrender their AW's or standard capacity magazines and I don't fault them a damn bit.... better get all you can now, because unless the entire Legislature and Governor's Office can be replaced with a Republican/Conservative majority and the knee-jerk Legislation that was again rammed through overturned, we WILL see a lot of Gun Dealers closing their doors.
