Two possibilities:

1) He is literally insane and has lost touch with reality
2) He just assumes the press in on the side of the democrats (true) but the polling doesn't support the democrats on the shutdown. Therefore Trump is being shielded by the press. The press is not doing their job, which is to get people to support democrats.

Or, both could be true.
