I read a book some years ago, i think it was called "The Boom". It went into some oil exploration and production history. It included fracking. In the book the author stated that some of the earliest fracking was right here in western NY and the twin tiers region of PA. If you look around you can still find some of these wells. They have small signs near the road. They will usually have the land owners name and a series of number like "Johnson B-442". I have found a couple when out and about on the bike.The day the drilling starts is the day that Horseheads becomes more relevant than Albany. (already kinda sorta is)
