Immigrant communities in the U.S. are not a true representation of Iranian population. The son of deposed Shah is as popular there as venereal disease. No matter who seizes power over there, they are not going to be friendly to the West, and for good reason.

US President Donald Trump will offer brief remarks regarding the ongoing protests in Iran during a speech this afternoon in Detroit that will primarily focus on the economy, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt tells reporters.

He will then return to the White House, where he will hold a briefing with his national security team to discuss potential steps that the US could take against the regime, a White House official tells reporters separately.

Earlier today, he urged the protesters to continue taking to the streets, adding that help is on the way.

I disagree.

Even if we care nothing for the Iranian people, it is still in America's interest to have an Iranian regime that is not purely anti-American and hell-bent on our destruction.

Whether the next Iranian government is a dictatorship, a democracy, or military-led theocracy, we benefit if that government simply becomes "Iran First." If they merely put their national resources towards their interests instead of funding worldwide terror entities (Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, etc), we benefit.

On the world stage, a western-friendly (or at least western agnostic) Iran could be less inclined to make deals with failing world actors (ex/ Russia, Venezuela, Cuba) and more likely to create mutually beneficial trade deals with the U.S. and our economic allies since that would fiscally benefit them.

I believe that deposing the Islamist regime in Iran could be useful for world peace and stability. Am I a Pollyanna? Maybe somewhat. I don't want us to actually do the necessary post-regime nation building. But, can a regime that marked us as The Great Satan that needed to be utterly obliterated get worse? Time will tell.

This could become the largest wholesale slaughter of civilians by a modern government.

The IRGC will probably not flip. The Basij are maniacal zealots, so they won't flip.

Some agency needs to pay some high-ranking regular army Iranian generals to "see the light and stand with their people."

I'm no strategist. But, the IRGC needs to be demoralized and destroyed. Their barracks, installations, equipment, and leadership needs to be overwhelmingly hit very soon.
