Thanks to @dsdmmat I picked up a sweet Simmons 20-60x60 spotting scope on Amazon and it arrived just in time for an impromptu range day yesterday with @NirvanaFan and a friend on a mutual friend's land. They have some space and we setup at ~100y to sight in his new R700 30-.06 w/ Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 EBR-1 MOA scope. Holy shit, what an amazing scope, I'm so jealous, lol. Also needed to sight in his new AR10 w/ Nikon M308 4-16x42 BDC 800. I want that scope too, hahaha. I did some shooting too w/ the Savage, but I wasn't taking the results to heart because the weather sucked so much. Still, after looking at my shots, I think I shot the Federal non-typical white tails better than the Hornady's I was shooting before. I think I need to tweak my scope slightly, but it'd bring down a deer at this point, so I'm good w/ that.
First off, I'm very impressed w/ the scope. For the price, it was really easy to see the impacts at 100y, and as some of these pics show, I think I could see at 200y too.
It came Friday after work, so I took it outside to look down the street. From my house to the end of the street is ~233y (according to Google maps), so I figured this was a decent test.
Came in a nice case
First thing I did was discard the tripod that came with it. Used my tripod I use for my camera. Long story short, it's better, but because it's aluminum and light as hell, a stiff breeze shakes this. I can't imagine how the one that came w/ this would have done, it's way crappier feeling.
Magnified at 60x
That shot was taken w/ my cellphone, if I wanna keep doing this (more on that w/ next pic) I'm gonna need a bracket to hold my phone, and I know they make em.
I like night photography, so I decided to check out the moon. After many attempts at trying to keep from moving the scope, tripod, and find w/ my phone, I got this decent shot:
Not bad, having a bracket will help there, since I plan on doing this more.
Ok, now to shooting. I'll let the pics speak for themselves

My Federal group. Not my best, I think I could tick it up a notch, but at least I'm...consistent?
Overall, he's very happy. I don't have a picture of the Remington, but he bought it used, and I think someone replaced the stock and trigger on it. Stock was very heavy, 1 piece but had an integrated cheek riser a bit. Trigger was definitely light, so either modified or replaced w/ maybe a Timney? Not sure. Very crisp. It shoots great though.
That all being said, and I'm not blaming my shooting on it, but ffs the weather sucked yesterday. The rain was ridiculous and the wind was worse. Not that it should affect rounds going at least 2800 fps, but it was just annoying. Still, I think we shot alright with it. Can't wait to go and do more.
Our targets and hanger setup was really nice, loved it. Got some AR500 targets and hung them using bits of tire. Worked perfectly, now we just need to move them back a bit. Hopefully we can get our friend to move his berm back a bit so we can get closer to 200y. If I get my scope on target a bit better, I don't care so much about groupings, as long as I hit that steel. It's just fun to do
