Considering the steel armor really has to be coated, I don't see a much better price elsewhere. I already have steel, so this is what I'm going to do next.

It's a decent low priced choice. You can do that carrier, 2 of the level 4 plates and a few pouches for around $350 and that would be a totally fine conversation piece to have " just in case" or to have just because the government doesn't want us to

RMA offers nij certified level 4 cermaic plates for $135 each.

No reason to go with steel unless you want some back up plates for the apocalypse.

There are some efforts to restrict or ban possession of body armor in Congress.

One of those efforts is HR 4568, the Responsible Body Armor Possession Act, introduced by Representative Grace Meng (D-NY). This legislation makes it illegal for civilians to own Level III body armor after the enactment of the bill.


Now, this ban isn’t a full ban in the way that Beto O’Rourke and Eric Swalwell want to ban the AR-15. Those who bought Level III armor before the bill becomes law will be allowed to keep it. Afterwards, though, buying or possessing Level III armor becomes a federal felony with a sentence of up to 10 years.
According to the National Institutes of Justice, part of the Justice Department, Level III body armor can stop any round up to 7.61x51mm NATO rounds. At one store, a given set of body armor comes in at around $440, which is a little less than half the price of a Mossberg 930 SPX autoloading shotgun.

“(36) The term ‘enhanced body armor’ means body armor, including a helmet or shield, the ballistic resistance of which meets or exceeds the ballistic performance of Type III armor, determined using such standard as the National Institute of Justice has in effect at the time at which a person purchases, owns, or possesses such armor.”.

Tough to know just what to get... Some of these plates expire ... If a ban is in place you would want the longest lasting ones as one could get. If we have massive strife in the coming years could be a life saver. Having one just to wear at the range in case you have some asshole shooting next to you ... would also be good to have .

Shortly before noon, Bergen fire and an ambulance were called to The Firing Pin for an accidental gunshot to the head. The incident is a fatality. Sheriff's investigators are on scene.
The Bergen facility is a public indoor shooting range, retail gun shop and firearms training center located at 8240 Buffalo Road, between Parkview Drive and Route 33.

The armor *is* bullet proof. Vests of each design *are* proof tested against specific ballistic threats.

"Proof" is testing, not a guarantee of absolute performance against evert conceivable threat.

So, your NIJ level 2 vest *is* "bulletproof" but your home brew 1/2" ar500 plate covered in duct tape isn't.

Despite the fact that the home brew armor will stop much more significant threats than the level 2 vest.
