Where I work they are one step above managers.
Usually don't have more than a few dozen people under them.
Directors are the heart of middle management.
Glass door says expected director salary at Raytheon is ~$360k/year. Hardly a high level executive salary for a major defense contractor like that.
As for how interesting this is, it would depend on *what* team he was the director of.
Corporate real estate ? Meh.
Some HR group ? Probably nothing burger.
Legal ? I'm sure they can all keep their mouths shut, nobody hires a lawyer who can't keep a secret.
Or missile development or production? Now, things could get interesting.
Environmental compliance ? Export regulations ? This could certainly be worth looking into.
